The test keeps the source database, the staged copy, the destination pieces, and the assembled file under one temporary directory. Peak use is about four times
PENDING_BYTE_OFFSET, so roughly 5.5 GiB. Add a short comment with that figure, so nightly runners can be sized. Consider a guard that skips the test when free space is short.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

23-39: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winValidate every destination piece length before writing.
The destination contract records each piece's expected

What changed
A backup copies the database while writes continue, and Sirannon writes the bytes to a destination the caller supplies.
The copy runs through SQLite's stepped backup interface on the connection that writes, because any other connection writing to the source returns the copy to page one. A backup holds the writer lock only to start, so later writes run in the gaps between steps.
db.backupTo(options)takes a destination of three operations, write a piece, read a piece, and list the pieces, and the staged route sends one local file on in 16 MiB pieces.db.backupCapabilities()states that this route needs local disk equal to the backup.assembleFromDestinationbuilds the file back, exported from a new@delali/sirannon-db/backupentry point.Sirannon stops a copy after three restarts, after 256 steps that move no new page, or after 30 seconds with no step at all.
db.backup(destPath)moves onto the same copy, so it no longer holds the writer lock throughout and no longer compacts what it writes.Decision records
ADR 0005 put the copy on a dedicated read connection, which section 2.2 of
docs/research/non-blocking-backup.mdmeasured as never completing. Both Node drivers reproduce that: 141 and 50 restarts with neither run finishing, where the same copy on the writing connection took 132 and 133 steps with no restart. ADR 0005 andCONTEXT.mdnow record the amended decision.Spec
01-driver.mdgainssteppedCopyandcopyDatabase.02-core.mdrewrites Backups.07-errors.mdgainsBACKUP_RESTARTED,BACKUP_STALLED, andBACKUP_DESTINATION_ERROR.Testing
1924 tests pass, with lint, both typechecks, build, the bundle check, and the API reports green. A soak test copies a source past 1 GiB to a destination, assembles it back, and opens it. The bun, expo, and wa-sqlite drivers report
steppedCopy: falseand are unverified by test, because both tsconfigs exclude them.Closes #48
