Summoner Desktop — v1.1.0-alpha.3

General Information

Install Notes

  • macOS: open the .dmg, drag the app to Applications, then right-click -> Open on first run if Gatekeeper blocks it.
  • Debian/Ubuntu: sudo dpkg -i <package>.deb && sudo apt -f install
  • AppImage: chmod +x <package>.AppImage && ./<package>.AppImage
  • Windows: run the installer .exe (or unzip the portable .zip).

How We Built This

Summoner Desktop is built with Electron + React and packaged with electron-builder for macOS, Linux, and Windows. There is no backend service required to run the desktop client.

Known Limitations

  • Alpha-stage UI and packaging; crashes or missing features are still possible.
  • No auto-update yet; download new builds manually.

Feedback

Please open an issue with your OS, CPU architecture, app version, and exact steps to reproduce.

macOS Notice (Unsigned Builds)

If macOS blocks launch with “Apple could not verify…”, remove quarantine and reopen:

xattr -cr "/Applications/Summoner Desktop.app"

This is a macOS Gatekeeper/quarantine check on unsigned or non-notarized builds. After removing quarantine, first launch may still take a few seconds (around ~5s in our testing) while macOS completes initial verification. Subsequent launches should be faster.

Patch Update (1.1.0-alpha.3)

Fix

  • Fixed an identity leak after workspace changes where UI/runtime memory could keep identity data from the previous workspace.

What changed

  • Workspace switch now fully rehydrates workspace-scoped state (identities, servers, projects/runtime selections) from the new path before autosave resumes.
  • Cleared workspace-scoped in-memory caches on workspace update to prevent stale carryover.
  • Tightened running state filters so agent/local-server runtime listings only include projects from the active workspace.
  • Forced chat/session view remount on workspace change to avoid stale in-memory conversation context.

Result

  • Identities now load and save only from the active workspace (<workspace>/summoner/...) with no cross-workspace bleed.

Release Notes (Patch)

This patch fixes a few small but important issues around workspace persistence and type safety.

Fixed

  • Fixed workspace path switching so server conversation logs are now saved in the selected workspace:
    • From: ~/.local/summoner/servers
    • To: <your_workspace>/summoner/servers
  • Fixed log persistence behavior when the target log file does not exist yet (new workspace now initializes and writes logs correctly).
  • Cleared workspace-scoped in-memory caches when changing workspace, preventing old workspace data from being reused after switching.
  • Fixed renderer API typing drift (window.api.servers missing in type declarations).
  • Fixed identity typing mismatch (Identity.value) causing npm run typecheck errors.

Result

  • Conversation/history persistence now follows the active workspace reliably.
  • Workspace changes apply immediately without stale cached data.
  • TypeScript checks pass cleanly again.

Notes

  • Settings file location remains in the default settings root by design so the app can always discover the workspace override on startup.

Install notes

  • macOS: open the .dmg, drag the app to Applications, then right-click → Open on first run if Gatekeeper blocks it.
  • Debian/Ubuntu: sudo dpkg -i Summoner.Desktop-1.0.0-alpha.2-amd64.deb && sudo apt -f install
  • AppImage: chmod +x Summoner.Desktop-1.0.0-alpha.2-x86_64.AppImage && ./Summoner.Desktop-1.0.0-alpha.2-x86_64.AppImage

How we built this
We used Electron with plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, keeping dependencies to a minimum. There is no backend or telemetry. We package with electron-builder for macOS (arm64 and x64) and Linux (AppImage and DEB). The goal is a simple, testable app that beginners can explore and debug easily.

Known limitations

  • Early alpha UI and packaging; crashes or missing features possible.
  • No auto-update yet; download new builds manually.
