Multi-agent-trip-planner

A FastAPI + LangGraph multi-agent travel planner. This repository includes a Dockerfile for container builds and can be deployed to AWS using GitHub Actions.

Deployment Overview

This project is configured to deploy via GitHub Actions to AWS App Runner using an ECR container image.

What the workflow does

  • builds the Docker image from Dockerfile
  • pushes the image to Amazon ECR
  • triggers an AWS App Runner deployment

Required GitHub secrets

Add the following secrets in your GitHub repository settings:

  • AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID
  • AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY
  • AWS_REGION
  • AWS_ACCOUNT_ID
  • ECR_REPOSITORY
  • AWS_APPRUNNER_SERVICE_ARN

AWS setup steps

  1. Create an ECR repository in your AWS account.
  2. Create an App Runner service that uses your ECR repository and exposes port 8000.
  3. Configure App Runner environment variables for secret values such as:
    • GROQ_API_KEY
    • TAVILY_API_KEY
    • DATABASE_URL
    • AVIATIONSTACK_API_KEY
    • DEFAULT_ORIGIN_IATA
    • LANGSMITH_TRACING
    • LANGSMITH_ENDPOINT
    • LANGSMITH_API_KEY
    • LANGSMITH_PROJECT

Running deployment

Push to the main branch and the workflow in .github/workflows/aws-deploy.yml will execute.

If you want to manually trigger the workflow, use the GitHub Actions tab and select "Run workflow".

Local development

  • Install dependencies: pip install -r requirements.txt
  • Run locally: uvicorn app:app --reload --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8000
  • Keep sensitive values in .env, which is ignored by Git. =======

Multi-Agent Trip Planner

AI-powered travel planning that handles flights, hotels, and itineraries in one query. Get a complete trip plan in PDF format—no endless back-and-forth required.

What It Does

Tell the planner where you want to go, when, and what matters to you. It:

  • Searches and compares flights across airlines in real-time
  • Finds and evaluates hotels based on your budget and preferences
  • Builds day-by-day itineraries with places, activities, and travel times
  • Delivers everything in a PDF—downloadable and shareable

One prompt. One PDF. All the planning done.

Why It Works

Multi-Agent Architecture — Instead of one model doing everything (and doing it mediocrely), specialized agents handle specific tasks:

  • Flight Agent finds the best flights via real-time APIs
  • Hotel Agent compares properties and rates
  • Itinerary Agent handles geography, timing, and logistics
  • Response Agent synthesizes everything into coherent travel plans

Smart Context Management — All agents share a unified state layer, so hotel recommendations actually match your flight dates, and activities fit the neighborhoods you're staying in.

Persistent Memory — Your preferences, previous trips, and past conversations are stored. Return later and it remembers your travel style.

How to Use

Quick Start

  1. Visit the deployed app → Live Link
  2. Describe your trip:
"Plan a 5-day trip to Tokyo in March. Budget $150/night for hotels,
prefer direct flights, interested in tech museums and street food."

  3. Download the PDF → Complete itinerary with flight options, hotel details, daily activities, maps, and booking links.

Local Setup

# Clone the repo
git clone https://github.com/Shivam6035/Multi-agent-trip-planner.git
cd Multi-agent-trip-planner

# Install dependencies
pip install -r requirements.txt

# Set environment variables
cp .env.example .env
# Add your API keys:
# - GROQ_API_KEY (Llama 3 via Groq)
# - TAVILY_API_KEY (web search)
# - GOOGLE_PLACES_API_KEY (optional, for enhanced hotel/POI data)
# - DATABASE_URL (PostgreSQL for long-term memory)

# Start the application
python app.py

# Visit http://localhost:5000

Why this matters:

  • Parallel agent execution = faster results
  • Shared state = consistent recommendations
  • Memory layer = personalization over time
  • Modular design = easy to swap agents or add new ones (flights + hotels + activities → also add restaurant recommendations, transport passes, etc.)
