🛠️ kition - Manage your data and documents easily

Kition helps you organize information. It combines markdown files, data tables, and AI tools into one workspace. You can use it to research topics, manage workflows, and track projects. It works on your local computer to keep your data private.

📝 What kition does

Kition serves as a central hub for your notes and tasks. You can use it to replace several different apps. It manages these items:

  • Markdown documents: Write notes, manuals, and lists in a simple text format.
  • Data tables: Store structured information like lists, contact details, or project trackers.
  • AI agents: Automate repetitive tasks and ask questions about your documents.
  • Browser research: Collect information from websites directly into your project folders.
  • Visual workflows: Map out your tasks to see how they connect.

💾 Getting started

Follow these steps to install the program on your Windows computer.

  1. Go to the official kition download page.
  2. Look for the recent release file that ends in .exe.
  3. Click the file name to start the download.
  4. Save the file to your desktop or downloads folder.
  5. Double-click the file to open it.
  6. Follow the prompts on your screen to complete the installation.

⚙️ Minimum system requirements

Your computer needs the following specifications to run kition smoothly:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • Memory: At least 4 gigabytes of RAM.
  • Storage: 200 megabytes of free space.
  • Processor: Modern dual-core processor.
  • Internet: Connection needed for initial download and AI features.

📈 Using the interface

When you open kition, you see the main navigation bar on the left. This area holds your documents and tables.

Creating your first document

Click the plus icon at the top of the sidebar. Give your file a name and choose between a markdown file or a data table. Type your text. Kition saves your work automatically as you type.

Setting up a data table

Choose the table option when creating a new file. You can add columns for dates, status icons, or text notes. Click any header to change the data type for that column. This helps you track status changes, deadlines, or simple lists.

Working with AI agents

To use an AI agent, highlight text within your markdown document. A menu appears above the text. Click the AI button. You can ask for a summary, a rewrite, or a list of action items based on your selected text.

🧩 Building workflows

Data flows from your research into your documents. Use the drag-and-drop feature to move items from your browser research tool into your markdown files. This bridges the gap between searching for information and writing your final summary.

If you have a workflow, click the visual tab. This brings up a canvas. Drag your tables and documents onto this canvas to draw lines between them. This helps you visualize how data moves through your personal projects.

🛡️ Privacy and your data

Kition stores all your markdown files and data tables on your computer hard drive. The application does not send your personal documents to a remote server. When you use an AI agent, the app only sends the specific text you select to the AI service provider. Delete any folder in the application to remove the data from your computer forever.

🏗️ Managing storage folders

You can select a main folder on your computer where kition saves all files. Go to Settings and click File Location. Choose a folder on your computer, such as your Documents or OneDrive folder. This syncs your kition files with your cloud storage provider automatically. It also creates a backup if your computer fails.

📋 Troubleshooting

If the app does not open, check these items:

  • Verify that you clicked the correct installer file for Windows.
  • Check that you have an active internet connection during the first launch.
  • Restart your computer to ensure no other programs block the installation.
  • Look for a shield icon on your screen. Windows Security might ask for permission to run a new program. Click Run Anyway to proceed.
