User Management

AndroidIRCX includes powerful user management features: Ignore List, Blacklist, User Notes, and Aliases.

Which list should I use?

Several features act on users - here is when to use each:

  • Ignore - hide someone's messages from your own view. Local only; they don't know, and others still see them.
  • Blacklist - automatically act (ban, kick+ban, or run a command) when a matching user joins a channel where you have ops.
  • Notify / Monitor - get alerted when a specific user comes online (uses IRCv3 MONITOR).
  • User Lists (Notify, AutoOp, AutoVoice, Protected) - automatically op, voice, or protect specific trusted users.

Notes and aliases below are just labels you attach to a nick for your own reference.

Ignore List

The Ignore List prevents messages from specific users from appearing in your view.

Adding users to Ignore List

  1. Long-press on a user's nick in the user list or message area
  2. Select "Ignore User" from the context menu
  3. Or go to Settings > Users & Services > Ignore List

Ignore patterns

You can ignore by:

  • Exact nick: Spammer
  • Wildcard host: *!*@spammer.example.com
  • Partial match: *bot* (ignores any nick containing "bot")

Managing Ignored Users

  • View ignored users: Settings > Users & Services > Ignore List
  • Unignore: Tap the user in the list and select "Remove"
  • Ignores are saved per-network

Blacklist

The Blacklist automatically performs actions when blacklisted users join channels.

Blacklist Actions

When a matching user joins, you can automatically:

  • Ignore: Local ignore (same as Ignore List)
  • Ban: Ban the user from the channel
  • Kick + Ban: Remove and ban the user
  • Kill: Disconnect the user from the server (requires oper)
  • OperServ Kill: Kill via services (requires oper)
  • AKILL: Network-wide ban (requires oper)
  • GLINE: G-line the user (requires oper)
  • SHUN: Silence the user (requires oper)
  • Custom Command: Run any IRC command

Adding to Blacklist

  1. Long-press a user's nick → "Blacklist Nick"
  2. Or go to Settings > Users & Services > Blacklist
  3. Tap "+ Add"
  4. Enter mask pattern:
    • nick - Match exact nick
    • *!*@host.com - Match by hostname
    • *!*@*.tor-exit.* - Wildcard patterns work
  5. Select action type
  6. Set duration (for AKILL/GLINE/SHUN)
  7. Add reason (optional)

Ban Mask Types

When using "Ban" or "Kick + Ban" action:

  • 0: *!user@host - Ban by ident@host
  • 1: *!*user@host - Ban by *user@host
  • 2: *!*@host - Ban by host only (default)
  • 3: *!*user@*.host - Ban by user@.domain
  • 4: *!*@*.host - Ban by *.domain
  • 5: nick!user@host - Exact match
  • 6-11: Various combinations

Blacklist Templates

For AKILL/GLINE/SHUN, customize the command template:

  1. Go to Blacklist → "Templates" button
  2. Edit templates for your network
  3. Available variables:
    • {mask} - Full mask (nick!user@host)
    • {usermask} - User@host part
    • {hostmask} - Host only
    • {nick} - Nick only
    • {user} - Ident/username
    • {host} - Hostname
    • {reason} - Your reason
    • {duration} - Duration string

User Notes

Add private notes to users that only you can see.

Adding Notes

  1. Long-press user's nick → "Add Note" or "Edit Note"
  2. Enter your note
  3. Notes are saved per-network

Viewing Notes

  • Notes appear in WHOIS display
  • Long-press user → "Add Note" shows existing note

User Aliases

Create alternate names for users.

Creating Aliases

  1. Long-press user's nick → "Add Alias"
  2. Enter the alias name
  3. Use alias in commands: /msg @alias message

Managing Aliases

  • View all aliases: Settings > Users & Services > User Aliases
  • Remove: Tap alias → "Delete"

Tips

  • Blacklist and Ignore are separate systems
  • Blacklist runs automatically on joins
  • Ignore is local-only (others still see messages)
  • Notes and aliases are stored locally on your device
  • All features work across multiple networks
