Fastest Open Source Git GUI

GitComet is built for teams that want fast Git operations with local-first privacy, familiar workflows, and open source freedom.

Available for Linux, Windows and macOS.

What GitComet gives you

Fast

Built end-to-end in Rust for speed and efficiency using smol, gix, and gpui for blazingly fast operations.

Precise

Stage by file, by hunk, or by single line, straight from the diff gutter. Commit the one idea you meant to.

Local-first

Your repositories stay on your machine. No account, no sync, no upload. Free for personal and commercial use, under the AGPL-3.0.

Merge tool

Conflict resolution that starts halfway done

GitComet settles whitespace moves, one-sided edits and duplicate changes the moment a file opens. You decide only the conflicts that need a decision.

How resolution works

Merge Conflicts, Solved

40 seconds
Resolve a Git merge with two conflicted files. GitComet handles the unambiguous conflicts, then lets you choose a side or keep both changes before committing the result.

Watch with the written walkthrough

Steps shown in the video
  1. Merge the feature branch into main. GitComet shows the files that still contain conflicts.
  2. Open the first file. Its unambiguous conflicts are already resolved; review the output, then save and stage it.
  3. Open the remaining conflicted file. Review the base, local and remote versions alongside the resolved output.
  4. Press C to take the remote side for the current conflict. Press Shift+F3 to move to the next conflict, then D to keep both sides.
  5. Review the combined result, save and stage the file, and commit the merge.

Interactive rebase

Rewrite history by dragging it

Right-click a commit to start an interactive rebase. Reorder commits by dragging them, then pick, reword, squash, fixup, or drop. Squash a range and preview the resulting message before you commit to it.

Rewrite History, Cleanly

38 seconds
Clean up a branch with GitComet’s interactive rebase editor. Fold fixup commits into their targets, reorder the remaining commits and replace an unclear commit message before completing the rebase.

Watch with the written walkthrough

Steps shown in the video
  1. Open an interactive rebase for the feature branch from the commit actions menu.
  2. Use autosquash to fold fixup commits into the commits they amend. Review the resulting sequence in the editor.
  3. Drag commits into the order you want them to appear in the branch history.
  4. Choose Reword for the vague commit message and continue the rebase. Enter a descriptive message when prompted and save it.
  5. Review the completed branch history to confirm that the commits are ordered and named as intended.

Line staging

Keep each commit focused

A fix and a refactor can share a file without sharing a commit. Right-click a changed line or a selection to stage exactly what belongs together, and leave the rest for later.

Stage Only What Matters

48 seconds
Turn several edits in one file into focused commits. Select and stage just the fix, discard a debug line, and edit a remaining typo directly in GitComet before committing the rest.

Watch with the written walkthrough

Steps shown in the video
  1. Select the changed lines belonging to the fix in the diff and stage only those lines.
  2. Discard the leftover debug line while keeping the other intended edits.
  3. Write a message for the staged fix and press Ctrl+Enter to commit it on its own.
  4. Press Alt+E to edit the remaining typo in place. Press Ctrl+S to save the file and return to the diff.
  5. Press Space to stage the remaining change, then commit it separately. The history now contains two focused commits.
