decrease or diminish?

Hello, friends.
I need to write three sentences:
1.- When teaching control is based on selection and hierarchy, the teaching object diminishes or decreases (which one is correct?) I'd say decreases, but I'm not sure.

2.- Evaluation is a need (or necessity?) for all educational institutions.

3.- Teachers have to promote reading of ............ books. My questions is entire books, complete books or other to refer to read the whole book rather than fragments of it.
I'd appreciate your help. Bye.

  • On 2, I would say it depends on what is intended. Evaluation is a need would imply that educational institutions require it (in other words the need is defined by them). Evaluation is a necessity would imply that it must be done for them to be effective (in other words imposed externally)

On 3, complete books, or perhaps books in their entirety.

Can't help much on 1 as I don't understand what a teaching object is, however, diminishes implies becomes less important, decreases implies less quantity, but I may not be helping by saying this!

May I see the first sentence in Spanish
    necessary
    have to promote the reading

Here it is. "Cuando la exigencia de controlar el aprendizaje se erige en criterios de selección y jerarquización de contenidos, se produce una "reducción" en el objeto de enseñanza porque su presentación se limita a aquellos aspectos que son más suceptibles de control."
