    Etymology

    [edit]

Inherited from Romani [Term?], from Greek [Term?], from Ancient Greek σκιά (skiá). Iversen points out that caps were originally not common among Norwegian Travellers, therefore the sense "cap" may be somewhat new, but it would not explain why it is present in more regions than the sense "hat".
