Request for Reviewing

[edit]

Hello, i believe that a reviewer had been wrongly reviewing my article Draft:Ecce Homo (Van Dyck) so i would be happy if someone can review it and tell me if its suitable. ~2026-47788-87 (talk) 16:08, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

You need better sources. This painting might deserve an article, but you need actual coverage of the painting in independent sources. The reviewers were right to reject the submission. 19h00s (talk) 17:22, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Review request for Draft:Joseph Kapelyan

[edit]

Hello,

I am seeking a volunteer from WikiProject Visual Arts to help review Draft:Joseph Kapelyan.

The draft was previously declined due to issues with an AI/LLM-generated tone. I have removed all translation inaccuracies, which might have caused this warning and rewritten the article trying to adhere to Wikipedia guidelines. All biographical facts are matching to reliable secondary sources. A review from a member here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time, Aniabeigel (talk) 04:35, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Possible article: Dale Gallon, American historical painter

[edit]

I have a disclosed professional conflict of interest regarding Dale Gallon and therefore am not proposing to create or edit an article myself.

I have assembled independent sources that may support an article about Gallon, an American historical painter based in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, known particularly for Civil War and military-history subjects.

Some of the strongest independent sources include:

* Gettysburg Times, "Husband, wife partner in historical art business" (2013)

https://www.gettysburgtimes.com/townnews/artistic_photography/husband-wife-partner-in-historical-art-business/article_15ba0c28-90c6-59fb-b58d-e58505418f37.html

* Gettysburg Times, "Gallons closing Steinwehr shop" (2017)

https://www.gettysburgtimes.com/news/local/gallons-closing-steinwehr-shop/article_b2054a2b-772b-5240-b041-90a909ac4f48.html

* Gary W. Gallagher, Causes Won, Lost, and Forgotten: How Hollywood & Popular Art Shape What We Know about the Civil War, University of North Carolina Press (2008)

https://books.google.com/books/about/Causes_Won_Lost_and_Forgotten.html?id=j3qPAAAAMAAJ

Additional museum, military, government and newspaper sources are also available.

Would any uninvolved editor in WikiProject Visual arts be interested in evaluating whether Dale Gallon warrants an article? I would leave all decisions about notability, content and article creation to independent editors. ~2026-50528-11 (talk) 17:34, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Personally, after a good look online and at his website, I'd say no. The Gallagher book might be the best source, if it has a lot to say about him. Johnbod (talk) 17:43, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request for independent review – artist Faig Ahmed

[edit]

Hello,

I am writing on behalf of Faig Ahmed Studio. Our affiliation with the subject has been disclosed, and we understand that we have a conflict of interest and should not make substantive edits to the article directly.

The Faig Ahmed article is currently significantly outdated and carries COI and sourcing maintenance tags. We have already submitted a COI disclosure and edit request on the article's Talk page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Faig_Ahmed#COI_disclosure_and_request_to_update_exhibition_and_projects_history

We understand that the general COI edit-request backlog is currently very large, so we wanted to ask whether an uninvolved editor from WikiProject Visual arts might be willing to review the article and advise us on the best way to proceed with the update.

We have prepared the relevant updated information, including exhibition and project history, together with supporting sources and citations. We would be happy to add the proposed changes and corresponding sources to the Talk page in whatever format would be most useful for an independent editor to review.

Our intention is to bring the article up to date, strengthen its sourcing, and address the existing maintenance issues while fully respecting Wikipedia's COI, sourcing, and neutrality guidelines.

We would be very grateful for any guidance or assistance from an editor experienced with contemporary visual artists.

Thank you very much for your time and guidance.

Best,

Olga

Danny Lane – sourcing and weight review

[edit]

A few uninvolved eyes would be welcome at Talk:Danny Lane#Undisclosed paid-editing block: review of fourfold 2016 article expansion.

A 2016 rewrite by @Lsj90 more than quadrupled the size of the article; that account has now been indefinitely blocked for undisclosed paid editing. A fair amount of the material introduced in that expansion remains in the current version.

I am not suggesting a blanket revert - as some of the added sources are clearly useful - but there are a number of current source-matching and weight issues, including duplicate citations, details not supported by the cited source, dated present-tense wording, and fairly extensive client/commission coverage based partly on primary or affiliated sources.

It would be useful to have editors familiar with visual-arts biographies take a look at what should be retained, resourced, attributed or trimmed. Thanks. Aequoratlas (talk) 18:47, 23 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Review requested: Marinella Senatore COI draft

[edit]

Hello. I have prepared a substantially revised draft for Marinella Senatore at User:Scastrillo/Marinella Senatore draft.

I have disclosed a conflict of interest on the article talk page and have an open edit request at Talk:Marinella Senatore#Proposed sourced rewrite of the article, so I am not editing the article directly.

The draft focuses on Senatore's artistic practice and development, The School of Narrative Dance, light works and luminarie, drawing and collage, landscape and textiles, exhibitions, commissions, awards, residencies and institutional collections. It is supported by extensive inline sourcing from museums, institutional publications, criticism, interviews and other published sources.

If an uninvolved editor with experience in visual arts articles has time to review the draft for neutrality, due weight, sourcing and close paraphrasing, I would be very grateful. I am not requesting automatic acceptance of the draft; any changes should be made according to independent editorial judgment.

Thank you. Scastrillo (talk) 06:20, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Hello. I would appreciate feedback on Draft:Adrian Dică, which is currently awaiting AfC review. I am the subject of the draft and have disclosed my conflict of interest. Could editors familiar with contemporary visual arts assess whether the sources provide sufficient coverage to establish notability, and suggest any improvements to sourcing or neutrality? The draft includes coverage from HotNews, Radio România Cultural and Curatorial. A substantial interview was also published by Libertatea on 3 October 2026. Thank you for your time. Rescue requested for Draft:Joseph Kapelyan

[edit]

Hello fellow art editors. I am seeking assistance with Draft:Joseph Kapelyan, which was recently rejected at AfC by a reviewer citing that the "subject is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia."

I had been waiting for review for a month, during which I scrupulously edited the text and verified all sources to remove any previous issues and ensure strict compliance with our standards. I believe this final rejection is a major error or a misunderstanding of translation style as AI prose.

Joseph Kapelyan (b. 1936) is an established Soviet and Israeli painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. Over his 80-year career, he has held over 52 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 302 group exhibitions internationally. He has long-standing, heavily referenced biographical articles on both the Hebrew Wikipedia since 2011 (he:יוסף קפליאן) and the Russian Wikipedia (ru:Капелян, Иосиф Хаимович).

Furthermore, he was a co-founder of the Association of Professional Artists in Israel, received the international Nicholas Roerich Award (2016), and his works are held in institutional museum collections globally (including state museum collections in Belarus, Russia, and Israel).

Because of the rejection template, I am structurally blocked from standard resubmission. Could a member of this WikiProject look past the reviewer's automated flag, evaluate the reliable sources, and help me overhaul or directly move this draft into the main encyclopedia space? Thank you! Aniabeigel (talk) 10:37, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Independent notability assessment requested • Kobi Israel (photographer)

[edit]

Hello,

I am Kobi Israel, a fine-art photographer, and I would appreciate guidance on whether my documented photographic career meets Wikipedia's notability requirements.

I am the subject of the potential biography and wish to openly disclose this conflict of interest.

My professional history includes published photographic monographs, solo exhibitions, museum exhibition participation and independent critical commentary.

Selected sources:

1. Hamiltons Gallery • Promised Lands (2007)

https://hamiltonsgallery.com/exhibitions/119-kobi-israel-promised-lands/

2. Hamiltons Gallery • Lands In-Between (2012)

https://hamiltonsgallery.com/exhibitions/75-kobi-israel-lands-in-between/

3. Richard Kühl • Independent commentary on Views (2007)

https://www.portal-militaergeschichte.de/sites/akm/nlarchiv/NL_28.pdf

4. Jewish Quarterly • Kirstie Imber (2012)

https://doi.org/10.1080/0449010X.2012.10707218

The final source is an independently authored exhibition review whose publication details are confirmed, although I have not been able to examine the complete article.

I understand that gallery records and publication listings do not automatically establish Wikipedia notability.

I have also compiled additional source references and research notes, which I can provide if helpful.

Would an uninvolved volunteer editor be willing to assess whether the available evidence supports WP or WP, and whether an independently written biography would be appropriate?

I welcome an impartial assessment, including guidance on any important sourcing deficiencies.

I am not seeking promotional content, favourable treatment or guaranteed publication.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Master of the Reichenau School

[edit]

Does anyone else think this new stub should be deleted and its title be made a redirect with the same destination as Reichenau School, namely Ottonian art § Manuscripts? I'm not finding any reliable sources on the Notname "Master of the Reichenau School" for an individual artist, but occasional use of the term in English and German in image captions and the like; cf. these results on Wikimedia Commons. Do these just mean "a master of the Reichenau School", though, rather than "the Master of the Reichenau School"? Ham II (talk) 12:22, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yes, there will be several such masters, & this stub doesn't say which meant. Johnbod (talk) 12:27, 17 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here is just one page going over several sources mentioning him, or them, rather than just image captions. You are correct I took them to imply a single artist, rather than as it seems a group of artists. As one sees both, it seems quite possible scholars are not sure which one either and are leaving it open. I won't mind a redirect if such is called for, but another option would be just to make the page plural, of course. Cake (talk) 00:08, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's miles from being a WP:RS! There's so little information on the page you stated, a redirect to Ottonian art § Manuscripts is far better. Reichenau School redirects there, but if anyone wanted to do a dedicated article, that would be the obvious title. Your ref seems to a translation of parts of https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichenauer_Malschule. Johnbod (talk) 02:07, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me you typically glossed and reacted. I do not use it as a source on the article. You cannot simultaneously say it is not a list of reliable sources; and say it was a list copied off the reliable sources from German wikipedia. As above, I am not opposed to a redirect. That solves the problem of red links, which was my main motivation. I do wish first it would be clarified if scholars are possibly unsure themselves whether it was a group or an individual. "Master of the Reichenau School" is simply ambiguous between "The Master" or "A Master". So I wonder if is deliberately left ambiguous, or if it is just unfortunately confusing. Cake (talk) 05:25, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
There is a scholarly controversy over whether a school of illuminators existed at Reichenau Abbey at all, which is discussed at Ottonian art § Manuscripts. We don't need to go looking for an imagined further controversy over whether the "Master of the Reichenau School" was one artist or several. Unless we can find an RS explicitly discussing an individual Master of the Reichenau School the topic won't begin to clear the bar of WP:GNG, and should have a redirect not an article. Ham II (talk) 11:06, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was simply asking for clarification from someone more familiar with the Middle Ages whether such a controversy existed, not "looking for an imagined further controversy". All of the rest of the anonymous "Master of so-and-so" referred to on the Western painting page are "The Master" not "A Master", so it was reasonable to ask if we lost the grammatical article in translation, or if it was a deliberate act on the part of scholars to keep it ambiguous. In my experience, one sees "an anonymous master of..." in cases of using the indefinite "a" rather than definite "the". I appreciate directing me somewhere to educate myself on the matter, but it seems to me not clear at all from the Ottonian art article that there is a controversy over whether the school existed or not. Cake (talk) 21:57, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think the article makes it sufficiently clear that the controversy is not over whether the school existed, but over whether many of the works were actually produced at Reichenau, or a wider spread of centres. Johnbod (talk) 23:46, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Painter of the Wedding Procession

[edit]

He seems to be one of the more famous painters of the Kerch style, yet I cannot find his name vase anywhere. I found one vase of his in the Getty, and another in the Hermitage, but neither seems to be a wedding procession, unless they mean the Judgment of Paris. It would be neat to find and compare, as one of the more famous works by the Amasis Painter, in the Met, is a wedding procession. Cake (talk) 22:40, 18 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Titles for statues

[edit]

Statue of Charles de Gaulle (London) has been moved twice in history, neither citing a policy. Putting "Statue of" in the search bar shows no predominance for the location being after a comma or in brackets. Does anyone know of the policy? Unknown Temptation (talk) 19:55, 23 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Unknown Temptation: The relevant guideline is at MOS:ART/TITLE: "For portrait sculptures of individuals in public places ... [disambiguation] may be done either as "Statue of Fred Foo (Chicago)" (typically preferred for North America) or "Statue of Fred Foo, Glasgow" (typically preferred elsewhere)". We had a huge, if rather inconclusive, discussion on this a while back. Can anyone remember where? Johnbod (talk) 00:14, 24 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It was at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Visual arts § Parenthetical vs. natural disambiguation for public sculptures. (The title was a misnomer; it should have been "parenthetical vs. comma-separated disambiguation" – "natural disambiguation" is something else again.) Ham II (talk) 07:23, 28 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

"Attributed to" ?

[edit]

Would anyone care to write an article about the terms "attributed to", "studio of", "school of" and "after"? We do have a (dismbiguation) article Attribution, but visual art is conspicuous by its absence. I would do it but don't have any specialist sources to cite. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 15:36, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

We certainly should have an article - I thought we had more than it seems we do. Fine art authentication seems very crappy, and all-American. There's a bit in Style (visual arts) on "manner of" etc. Johnbod (talk) 19:30, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
"Authentication" should have occured to me as well as Provenance, but yes, that article is rather painful. If it is of any consolation to our American colleagues, the continuing grumbles at Provenance concern the extent to which somebody has watched an episode of Fake or Fortune and wrote down the highlights, so no room for complacency this side of the pond either. Surely there are serious publications on the topic to be summarised? Suely it is a mandatory module on any History of Art degree course?
There is certainly a need to report on (forensic) authentication methods like paint and canvas age identification - but again that needs more reliable sources than a TV series. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 20:36, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'd be glad to do some digging for quality sources later today; a cursory search for some of the names on the College Art Association's Task Force on Authentication, as well as sources citing those names, yielded quite a good cache of promising-looking sources accessible via databases we have access to in the Wikipedia Library. I don't think I have a good enough handle on the topic myself to write the article, but I could help with finding accessible specialist sources and identifying the more authoritative/widely cited texts on the subject. 19h00s (talk) 21:23, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
