Verification help: 1996 UK Internet Radio milestone (MCPS licence)

[edit]

Good Morning. I have a pending edit request at Talk:Internet radio regarding the first UK internet radio station licensed by MCPS in Dec 1996.

The request was formatted correctly by Andy Mabbett, but I'm not sure if it's stuck in the general COI backlog?

I have provided a few archived references which include:

NLS Moving Image Archive ref (Film 13143) for the Dec 1996 Grampian TV feature.

Wayback Machine capture from Feb 1997 showing the MCPS License (NT/MCPS/1001: AW2).

Contemporary coverage in The Scotsman (Dec 18, 1996).

I have many more secondary references from various other national newspapers and also the BBC from that time, but didn't want to clog the request with too many references so I picked only a couple.

Since this is a niche piece of UK broadcast history that's currently mising from the page, I was hoping someone here might be kind enough - or interested even - to review the sources and help update the "History" section?

The link to the request is: Talk:Internet radio#Request Edit: Chronological Split and Detailed Addition to History (1996)

Many thanks for any help anyone can offer!

Request for independent assessment — Geoffrey Alan Harrison

[edit]

Hello,

I am seeking an independent assessment of whether an article about Australian broadcaster Geoffrey Alan Harrison would meet Wikipedia's notability requirements.

I am the subject of the proposed biography and therefore have a conflict of interest (COI). I will not create or substantially edit an article about myself. I am instead seeking an experienced Wikipedia editor who may be willing to examine the available independent sources and determine whether the subject meets the relevant notability requirements.

I have assembled a Wikipedia Notability & Evidence Package containing contemporary newspaper coverage, broadcasting-industry publications, institutional archival records and other documentation covering a broadcasting career extending from the late 1970s to the present.

The independent material includes documentation relating to:

  • early commercial radio broadcasting and involvement as an original FOX FM announcer;
  • broadcasting associated with the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics;
  • specialist event broadcasting and Games Radio;
  • channel nine australia news story sno fm radio and Sno FM Radio;
  • Radio Wolf and early computer-based/digital broadcasting;
  • BBC Radio 5 Live reporting and Scandinavian correspondent work;
  • television and digital broadcasting ventures;
  • Ski TV and related broadcasting activities;
  • continuing Australian radio production, interviewing and podcasting through Travel Radio Australia.

I have deliberately separated my own primary material from independent sources. In particular, I am not relying on my own websites, published archive or first-hand recollections as evidence of notability.

A further independent source has also appeared very recently. On 9 September 2026, Australian radio-industry publication Radio Today published:

“Travel Radio Australia launches new interactive archive” — Sarah Patterson, Radio Today, 9 September 2026.

The article independently identifies Harrison as the producer and presenter of Travel Radio Australia and reports on the continuing archive of his broadcasting/interview work.

I am not asking editors to accept that an article should necessarily be created. I would simply appreciate an independent assessment of whether the available sources provide sufficient significant coverage under Wikipedia's notability guidelines and, if so, whether an editor would be interested in developing an article from those sources.

I can provide the source index and underlying newspaper, industry and archival material to any editor who is interested in undertaking an assessment.

Thank you.

Geoffrey Alan Harrison
