Add topicNot sure why my proposed merge was procedurally closed
[edit]Hello @Schwede66
I don't really understand what you mean by "you cannot nominate an article while it is nominated from the main page"
The link to 2026 Turkish LGBTQ raids had already dropped off the maın page by Wikipedia:Main Page history/2026 September 21b
However perhaps you could close Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pink certificate?
Regards

- Hi there, if the above is what I said, then the phrase "nominated from” should be replaced by “linked from”. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense. Sorry if my sloppy edit summary or closure rationale caused confusion. When I closed the merge request, the item was on the main page. I do not know how long after the closure it came off. Sorry, I don’t usually work at AfD, but look after the main page. Schwede66 17:38, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Schwede66 Please see Wikipedia:Main Page history. It was linked from the main page for a few days from the 18th, but as you can see from the link above it had already dropped off by the 21st. I nominated it for merging on the 22nd.
- Not a problem, as if you don't want to reopen it I can easily renominate. Chidgk1 (talk) 14:00, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- No, you are wrong. It was on the main page for some 18 more hours or so after I had closed the merge discussion. You need to look at the timestamps to figure out the details. Schwede66 19:24, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for posting it on 18th Sept. It was removed on 20th with https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:In_the_news&diff=next&oldid=1375828082

I can see it in ITN on some of the main page snapshots for Sept 18, 19 and 20. But I can't see it in the snapshots for 21 or 22, which was the day I nominated it for merging. Can you please check and if I am wrong link the snapshot you are talking about? Chidgk1 (talk) 13:57, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- No, snapshots is NOT what you use if you are interested in the details, but you look for Help:Page history (sorry, I called that timestamps before, but I see that specifically refers to signatures). By default, page history is shown in UTC, but I've changed my display to my local timezone:
- 2026 Turkish LGBTQ raids first posted to ITN 14:13, 18 September 2026
- 2026 Turkish LGBTQ raids first removed from ITN for page balance 23:46, 20 September 2026
- Closure discussion initiated 19:51, 22 September 2026
- 2026 Turkish LGBTQ raids readded to ITN by Robertsky for page balance 12:56, 26 September 2026
- procedural closure 22:55, 26 September 2026
- 2026 Turkish LGBTQ raids removed from ITN 04:13, 28 September 2026
- Ok, two things. When you nominated the item at AfD, the item was not on the main page. It went onto the main page (for a second time) after your nomination, hence the procedural close stands. But you did not do anything wrong. The mistake rests with Robertsky, who reposted the item while it was at AfD. Robertsky should have closed the deletion / merge discussion before posting it to the main page per WP:PCLOSE. Robertsky, maybe install User:Anomie/linkclassifier.js; that way, pages at AfD will show with a red link.
- Note that as per my comments above, the times that you see will differ (as you will see it in UTC). Schwede66 18:48, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Oh I see thanks for explaining. I had never heard of page balance before so I had no idea that links were sometimes re- added to ITN. Not a problem - I was just curious why - will start a new merge discussion Chidgk1 (talk) 07:12, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

Mostly Bach cantatas these days: a new FA, a cantata turning 300 today, but I didn't manage expanding yet, so my story is about a different one for the same occasion. - Bryan Kelly - again last day for ITNN. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:01, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
Bach composed a cantata for today's feast, performed 300 years ago. This time the main page has it on the right date. I nominated it for GA ;) - Also waiting for a review: Maureen Jones (on WP:ITNN), - someone said the article isn't good enough for the main page. We could change that! Already arrived there: Bryan Kelly and his fun Magnificat. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:01, 29 September 2026 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2026
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2026).

- Following an RfC, the good article criteria have been amended to add accessibility requirements.
- Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
- The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.
- Interface administrators no longer need to specify the
ResourceLoaderoption in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded throughResourceLoader. (T298199) - The
list=abusefiltersAPI module now supportsformatversion=2and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, theactionsproperty is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)
- The arbitration case Gun control 2 has been closed.
- Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.
- The October 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from September 29 to October 19. The call for candidates ends October 5.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2026 Arbitration Committee elections is opened and closes on 8 October.
- The Good Article Nominations backlog drive has begun and is scheduled to end on November 3.
