So yeah, my username is pretty ironic. Grilledcheeseisgreat (talk) 03:41, 28 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I thought it was really creative. I do like grilled cheese. Nothing like a good username to cheer you up. Dafootballguy | Want to talk? 02:01, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
My brother loves grilled cheese, so this username is a little reference to him. Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 02:07, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's cool. My username is just the first thing I could think of that I assumed wouldn't be taken. Dafootballguy | Want to talk? 02:08, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Lol. That reminds me of when I used to make throwaway Spotify accounts because I was too lazy to log in to my real one. I would smash my keyboard, type "@gmail.com" at the end, and Spotify never checked to see if it was real so it worked. So with an account named "Djkfdshjjhkfs" tied to "sknkfflkjfjfdslkjsdljksdjkl@gmail.com" with password "fjkfdjjkfdkjfdsfdsj" I could listen to music. Taking this to user talk

[edit]

I'm cognizant I'm taking the discussion a little off-topic with my aside so rather than going WP:NOTFORUM I'm bringing the chat here. Just to be clear, I'm not opposed to using advocacy groups - I even mentioned V-DEM as a counter-example that operates in the same space as Freedom House. I just don't think Freedom House, specifically, is a good source. Simonm223 (talk) 13:56, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I just don't see what makes Freedom house specifically a bad source. Because many advocacy groups have controversial ideologies, e.g. Amnesty International which I mentioned in the discussion. I'm simply confused on why you think specifically that Freedom House is too ideologically driven. Grilledcheeseisgreat (talk) 14:17, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm saying it's a matter of inconsistent application here. That the Armenian population experienced ethnic cleansing seems an odd reason to handle the Azerbaijani side more gently than it handles the PRC over Tibet which is, if you've ever spent any time in that part of the world, really disconnected from reality. Simonm223 (talk) 14:29, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
The Republic of Artsakh no longer exists. Aliyev successfully murdered/drove out the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. Freedom House doesn't decide which territories to rank based off past crimes; it includes them if they have vastly different conditions. With the Armeniens driven out, Nagorno-Karabakh has become just another part of Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, in Tibet, it's an ongoing campaign of genocide and murder. And Freedom House did condemn Azerbaijan's actions: https://freedomhouse.org/report/special-report/2024/why-are-there-no-armenians-nagorno-karabakh. Freedom House doesn't choose territories to rank off of moral rightness or past crimes; simply if conditions are different or not. This is the case for Tibet, but not Nagorno-Karabakh. Grilledcheeseisgreat (talk) 14:45, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
See this is the thing: Tibetans are not being genocided by the PRC. I don't mean this in the way that what happened in Xinjiang is only genocide according to the broader Lemkin definition. It's just not a thing that's happening. Tibet has been "just another part of China" since 24 October 1951. However I doubt I can persuade you that you are misled about Tibet so we can end this discussion here if you wish. Simonm223 (talk) 14:52, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I doubt we can persuade each other. Grilledcheeseisgreat (talk) 14:55, 28 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Confusions and confusions between the Iran War, the Yemeni civil war, and the Red Sea crisis

[edit]

There are three conflicts and three related pages: 2026 Iran war of 2026, Yemeni civil war (2014–present) and Red Sea crisis 2023-2025 (and reopened in 2026, in my opinion, seriously erroneously). Some people, and perhaps because no one has bothered to update the Yemeni war, thought it was a sort of peace or ceasefire, which isn't true. The conflict has always continued, and the attacks and belligerents are always the same; Thus, the attack on an Iranian plane (which was probably carrying weapons, missiles, and drones to its Houthi allies, as has always been done in the past) and the attacks by the Saudis (but they had always been allies and fought in Yemen alongside the Yemeni government) and on Saudi ships or ships trading with the Saudis (this was not a new development either) seemed like a novelty, as if there had been a previous conflict that had been closed for years and then reopened only at the end of July 2026. Even the Red Sea Crisis, which began in 2023 and ended in 2025 due to the Gaza War and the attacks on all commercial ships in international waters with certain belligerents, the intervention and condemnation of the UN with its related resolution, operations by the United States, NATO, and the European Union, China, India, Egypt, Pakistan... was now history. Instead, it was reopened, not with a new page like the 2026 Lebanon issue, with new motivations and belligerents, but on the same page, refocusing the information and historicity of the now-concluded conflict. And lately, a jumble has been emerging: texts of attacks written about the Red Sea Crisis, but also attacks in the Red Sea inserted into the Yemeni Civil War page, and even inserted into the Iran War, with the inclusion on the Iran War victims page of deaths and injuries in Yemen from Saudi attacks, and deaths and injuries to ships in the Red Sea by the Houthis, with texts and sources inserted into other conflict pages. But is Wikipedia still an online encyclopedia, or is it becoming a political social media site for the otherwise or willfully ignorant? Why mix up the various conflicts that began much earlier? Soon we'll also include the Gaza War and the guerrilla warfare in the West Bank between settlers and Palestinians, and whatever else is happening in the Middle East? Mixing everything together without any historical-descriptive logic, distinguishing the various conflicts by different Casus belli (the term was deleted from the English pages because it was confused with the general cause of the war and not with the reasons given by the attacker for starting the conflict), motivations, causes, military operations, and belligerents... a bit like saying there's the United States, Israel, NATO, the European Union, the Western powers (and maybe even the UN), all of which are the same thing against the rest of the peaceful, democratic world, respectful of international law and human rights. But in doing so, Wikipedia is being destroyed, a bit like how they once wanted to burn old history books and rewrite a new one. I sincerely apologize for the outburst, but I care about the Wikipedia project, at least the initial one, but I've noticed that before social media and cell phones, Wikipedia was something else entirely, and now it's being transformed, destroying the project. The true Wikipedian administrators and editors, who in my opinion have diminished in number compared to the past, have been overwhelmed by new and numerous editors with different motivations and spirits, making it enormously difficult to control and provide a neutral and historical account of events. ~2026-36818-47 (talk) 13:54, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I honestly agree. These problems all arise from an unspoken consensus that WP:IGNOREALLRULES doesn't really matter. On Swedish Wikipedia (I am not fluent in Swedish, but I have ancestors that spoke it and so I've learned some for fun), and it seems most other smaller Wikis, they argue over the intent of policy, not the literal text. Here it's almost unadulterated, complete wikilawyering. This is not what was intended when policy was written. This is the problem WP:IGNOREALL tried to fix. However, with how things are de facto working, we might as well move WP:IGNOREALL to essay space. Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 14:44, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Jonathan Meléndez when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Specifying |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= needs to be defined in the template in order to work. You can look at the documentation for the template being used, but it is also helpful to use the preview button before saving an edit; this helps find any errors that have been made and ensures that the values added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is highly recommended that editors use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions of if I can help explain further, please let me know! You can also contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:59, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Per TarnishedPath's self-admitted errant relishing, the language is a clear PT1 pass. Thus the two votes opposing on that basis are to be discarded. Dekimasu's oppose was on the basis that if two unrelated topics of certain types exist then there can never be a primary topic. It's a not invalid oppose, but the claim that two topics always have equivalent claims to historical significance was made with no attention to this situation. An oppose that can be copy-pasted is not one I would find convincing. Maltazarian's oppose is well-reasoned and my disagreement with it is known. Of the support votes, we have one per nom, one per nom with extended reasoning, one on PT1, one slightly confused !vote, and one "first comes to mind" !vote. I struggle to see how this could not be closed as moved, or how your rationale is correct (or whether this "Not moved" is no consensus or consensus against). I'd hope you revise your close so I don't have to take it to WP:MR. 1brianm7 (talk) 18:03, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I'll revise it to say no consensus. In solidarity, Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 18:20, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I still don't really see that. Casting aside the weaker votes, we have two !votes of varying merit, one which does not deal with any specific rationale, and then we have three complete votes in favor, with three more votes with some deficiencies voting in favor. Two's a company against a crowd of six. 1brianm7 (talk) 20:45, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
WP:Headcount alone does not constitute consensus In solidarity, Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 20:48, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you want me to, I can reopen it. But I won't close as consensus to move - not for now at least In solidarity, Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 20:50, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would of course prefer it be reopened, because I believe the consensus in that discussion was to move. Headcount alone does not matter, but what we have here is a consensus at PT1 is met and that moving would have navigational value. We have one oppose !vote that cites long-standing practice on PT2 without any attention to this specific reason, and we have Maltazarian's oppose, which I (naturally) believe that I have rebutted. I'd ask that you not relist, though: the first relist was self-admitted in error and the second was truly baffling. 1brianm7 (talk) 00:46, 10 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Feel free to reopen. (I'm on a very, very slow flip phone right now so I can't do it without insane lag) In solidarity, Grilledcheeseisgreat ✉ 02:48, 10 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
