Template:R from military designation
When used inside the {{Redirect category shell}} template:
This page is a redirect. The following categories are used to track and monitor this redirect:
|
When used by itself:
- From a military designation: This is a redirect from a military designation to a more common civilian or manufacturer's designation of an aircraft, vehicle, or other item.
 | This template should not be substituted nor used to tag soft redirects. |
Purpose
This tag should be used in cases where an aircraft, vehicle, or item is best known by (and the target page titled by) a civilian or manufacturer's designation, but is alternatively known by a designation assigned by a military force. For instance, the de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalo was designated as the de Havilland Canada C-8 Buffalo by the United States Air Force. This tag would be placed on the redirects of all military designations by which the targeted type was known.
In cases where an aircraft, vehicle or item is best known by (and titled by) a military designation, but is also known by other military designations, use {{R from alternative military designation}} on those redirects. For a redirect title that is a variant of a parent military type, use {{R from variant military designation}}.
Usage
- This redirect category (rcat) template populates both Category:Redirects from military designations and Category:Printworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wikipedia articles in printed versions. Redirects from military-to-civilian designations are suitable for a printed version. In other words they are printworthy.
 | Please do not alter the printworthy settings of this rcat without first notifying the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, who are responsible for any and all materials, including redirects, that go into a printed version of Wikipedia. |
- Add this rcat to a redirect (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{Rcat shell|
{{R from military designation}}
{{R printworthy}}
}}
- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. For more information see the documentation on its template page. This rcat may also tag a redirect individually:
#REDIRECT [[(target article title)]]
{{R from military designation}}
- This is in accord with instructions found at Wikipedia:REDCAT.
- Use this rcat on any mainspace redirect from a military designation to a common name of an aircraft, vehicle, or other item that is best known by its civilian or company designation.
