Template:Late antiquity

| Late antiquity |
|---|
This sidebar links broad survey articles concerning late antiquity, conventionally understood as the period between classical antiquity and the early Middle Ages. Its scope includes the Mediterranean, Europe, North Africa, the Near East, and adjacent regions between approximately the third and eighth centuries.
Usage
[edit]Place the template near the beginning of a broad article about late antiquity:
{{Late antiquity}}
To open a particular list when the page loads, pass its name as an unnamed parameter or through |expanded=:
{{Late antiquity|regions}}
{{Late antiquity|expanded=culture}}
{{Late antiquity|expanded=all}}
The available list names are:
periodspoliticalregionsreligionsocietyculturetransformations
Scope
[edit]The template is intended for broad overview articles, including regional surveys, major political formations, religious and cultural traditions, and transformations affecting the late antique world. It should not normally be added to biographies, individual literary works, particular archaeological sites, single battles, or narrowly defined theological controversies. More specialized navigation templates should be used on those pages.
The lists are selective, not exhaustive. New links should represent established overview articles that help readers navigate the period as a whole.
Placement
[edit]On articles using an infobox, place this sidebar after the infobox unless doing so produces an excessively crowded lead. On regional articles, the regions list may be expanded with {{Late antiquity|regions}}; on literary or artistic articles, use {{Late antiquity|culture}}.
This template includes collapsible lists.
- To set it to display all lists when it appears (i.e. all lists expanded), use:
-
{{Late antiquity|expanded=all}}or{{Late antiquity|all}}(i.e. omitting|expanded=).
- To set it to display one particular list while keeping the remainder collapsed (i.e. hidden apart from their headings), use:
-
{{Late antiquity|expanded=listname}}or{{Late antiquity|listname}} - ...where listname is one of the following (do not include any quotemarks):
- periodization, political, regions, religion, society, culture, transformations
- For example,
{{Late antiquity|expanded=regions}}or{{Late antiquity|regions}}
