Warner Bros. Entertainment's fate

[edit]

After this merger is complete, should we consider Warner Bros. Entertainment defunct? Its subsidiares, particularly Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Television are now standalone entities, and now we know WBTV is part of Paramount's TV Group along with CBS Studios and Paramount Television Studios. The only sign of WBEI's existence these days is as a brand and a copyright holder, so its operational status needs to be debated. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 13:59, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

We should not consider anything, we should wait for press releases announcing the company structure. Buggi (talk) 14:06, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agree completely. We don’t know if Skydance will keep WBEI active or merge it into WBD (which is supposed to stay active as a subsidiary of Skydance) or do something else entirely with it. If WBEI is dissolved, we will find out in due time. DrPepperIsNotACola (talk) 17:05, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. has been active since AOL / Time Warner to WarnerMedia. It holds all trademarks of WB IP and the copyright of entertainment releases (films, TV, games, theatrical plays, games and so much more) They rarely dissolve, as it costs a lot of legal costs to transfer and deal with the right holders. two things marketing-wise: as a public company, it is easy for shareholders to say all TV assets are under the segment of "Paramount Skydance Television". Legally, they are actually still under WB Ent due to subsidiaries for film and television still owned by WB Ent Inc. "The only sign of WBEI's existence these days is as a brand and a copyright holder, so its operational status needs to be debated. " This is not true. PSKY is acquiring WBD Inc., which allow them therfore own all assets, rather than individually changing them. Brand is the concept and trademark; WB is still an active company, cannot be copyright holder if your brand, have be legal entity. Ekki múkk (talk) 15:38, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Let's just wait until official announcement. Everything will be crystal clear very soon. Kalpesh Manna 2002 (talk) 16:14, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
The WBD press releases mentioned nothing about WBEI as a business segment, only being represented through its branded business units. If it's only a legal entity since 2022, it just about deserves to be listed as "see also" on infoboxes, since its sole purpose now is copyright holder. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 16:20, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well…isn’t that kind of the point of WBEI? To be a holding company? It’s not really supposed to do anything on its own. Its subsidiaries have always been the ones doing the work. DrPepperIsNotACola (talk) 17:08, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
WBEI is a technically operational company; it came from messy JV time Warner Ent. They act more like operations of entertainment that own subsidiaries for niches, and it also happens to own trademarks and copyrights. Holdco is a business that sits on top and holds IP and so forth and does not run a company. WBEI acts as a parent company; it does own businesses and holds subsidiaries. Ekki múkk (talk) 17:18, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I really do think we need to start showing the business structures here like the press releases say they do. It's [the reporting structure] is sourced, and accurate. As far as WBEI is concerned, it's an in-name only unit since most of its subsidiaries were dispersed. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 20:26, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
WBEI has been a legal company since 2002/03. Your comment, "If it's only a legal entity since 2022, it just about deserves to be listed as "see also" on infoboxes, since its sole purpose now is copyright holder," is incorrect. WBEI has been operating for decades; it is not merely a copyright holder but has been fully running the entertainment side since 2002/03. "The WBD press releases mentioned nothing about WBEI as a business segment, only being represented through its branded business units." This marketing, to shareholders, hates subsidiaries and legal, saying segments and units and divisions create a closer group. Really, WBEI is its own entity, with debts, contracts and so forth. Ekki múkk (talk) 17:26, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It’s nothing but the collective subsidiary for any subsidiary that uses the Warner Bros. brand, along with units associated with it. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 18:33, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree my point. I did go detailed; my point is keep as if right now as currently structured as. Ekki múkk (talk) 17:14, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Indeed. Let's just wait. Everything will be very clear soon. Kalpesh Manna 2002 (talk) 17:39, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think a lot of these M&A tend to be preemptive and assumption-based; they are tied to public companies and shareholders, so it makes sense we have to wait and see because they operate on announcements and facts when suits them release it due time. Ekki múkk (talk) 17:56, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Warner Bros. Entertainment simply refers to all-encompassing film studio that's been around since 1923 that houses not just Warner Bros. Pictures, but its television and home media segments, along with New Line Cinema and DC Studios. Skydance wouldn't be its first new parent, as it's gone through several since the 1960s. — TheFloridaTyper (DMS) — 06:59, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
With the news that WBTV is gonna be part of Skydance TV, we should probably list WBTV within Cheeks’ segment as the structure says. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 18:30, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
This same bit of news also points to the film businesses of Paramount and WB being shuffled into one motion picture division of Skydance where both are kept as separate units but under the same corporate parent. A Variety article (and a few others) has come out specifically about the leadership shuffle the Ellisons are doing, and it makes mention of this new group with no mention on what’s happening to WBE. Funnykoalavinecompilation (talk) 18:38, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
So, what should we do? Just assume it has been dispersed? It was the case with Fox Entertainment Group when Disney bought Fox. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 19:21, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
WBD already had a structure where leadership was divided into WB Motion Pictures Group and WB Television Group reporting to CEO without a single WBE leadership. Buggi (talk) 19:22, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yet for some reason, Wikipedia’s establishment decides to use the WBE umbrella term for studio-associated assets. I feel like this can be different with Paramount, especially since Fox Entertainment Group got dispersed after Disney bought them. BiggieSMLZ (talk) 20:16, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
It remains to be seen how both the Paramount and WB film groups will be sorted out within this new broader "Skydance Motion Picture Group" (which we don't know anything about besides name and the fact it has WB and Paramount), but I've been reading this news release from PSKY today about the leadership teams across the new company and within the bio of the co-chairs, it mentions a "broader film portfolio" alongside WB and Paramount. This to me could indicate that some labels within each could separate to be placed in this group, but definitely insinuates both studios are going to be sister units in some form (and interestingly, DC Studios and James Gunn's position within the new company are written separately from the Motion Picture Group bios, could it be separate?). I am not going to make any assumptions on how this will be organised, but it does sound like the way both studios and their units are organised is going to change and we'll have to rewrite some major parts of both studio's articles. HQ Location

[edit]

On the company website, the SEC filings show that One Astor Plaza is the “address of the principal executive offices.” Aside from that, the news releases list both New York and Los Angeles. Warner Bros Discovery more or less did the same thing: its principal executive offices were at 230 Park Avenue South, while Zaslav operated from Burbank. On the WBD page, the New York address was always shown as the headquarters. I believe the same should be done here. ObjectivityCat9942 (talk) 06:28, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The mention of LA headquarters quotes Ellison's pre-merger comment which referred to Paramount, not Skydance. The actual post-merger headquarters is in NY. Buggi (talk) 08:26, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Aside from that, they inherited a lot of New York centric core assets, such as HBO. But what’s more important is the SEC filings. ObjectivityCat9942 (talk) 15:23, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Logo on infobox

[edit]

Both File:Skydance Media 2020.svg and File:Skydance Corporation Dark Logo 2026.svg are too similar files, and the latter cannot be used in any other articles because it has WP:NFCC violations. Pinging @Richardk80:. Achmad Rachmani (talk) 15:34, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Achmad Rachmani: Two important points regarding this:
  1. Threshold of Originality / NFCC applicability: The Skydance wordmark consists entirely of simple uppercase typography and a basic geometric arc. Under US copyright law, basic shapes and letterforms fall below the threshold of originality (see WP:TOO and {{PD-textlogo}}). Because simple geometric text logos are ineligible for copyright, WP:NFCC does not strictly apply here in the way it would for complex artistic illustrations.
  2. Corporate Distinction and Asset Currency: While visually continuous, the 2026 holding corporation (Skydance Corporation) has deployed an updated corporate vector featuring widened arc geometry and distinct stroke weighting compared to the legacy 2020 subsidiary asset. Wikipedia infoboxes exist to identify the primary subject of the article using its current, active brand identity rather than legacy predecessor files.
  3. Minimal Use: If treated under local non-free licensing, the file is used solely within the infobox of Skydance Corporation to identify the organization, which fully satisfies WP:NFCC#3b and WP:NFCC#8.
Using the current asset properly reflects the active entity post-merger. Richardk80 (talk) 15:49, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

List of Skydance Studios (Skydance Motion Picture Group) films (2026-2029/present)

[edit]

Will that be possible for making a list of current films owned by Skydance like similar to Walt Disney Studios with much of these studio release labels. Web3858584 (talk) 15:39, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
