Blatant hypocritical advertisement for a commercial service

[edit]

This yaps about "saving poor victims of censorship and political persecution" but in reality this is just another Mullvad VPN's competitor that slightly undercuts it in price and allows easy payment methods. But what is disgusting about it is that it created its own incompatible protocol just to get you hooked up on their app where they peddle their commercial service. "Free service" is just trial made from scraps and vendor-locked to their app, for you to feel enough discomfort to justify paying up. Claim of "using it for your own private server" is also bogus: if you can do that then it provides no advantage to you, as you already be running standard OpenVPN/WireGuard/ShadowSocks tunnel of your own.

Now, it's not a bad deal, not like some who squeeze everything from desperate or clueless people. But they know their audience and competitors, also using typical vendor-lock tactic of squeezing you for whole year of payment. They know that Mullvad's prices are just barely in reach of people from most-censored countries and payment is very inconvenient, inaccessible to most average citizen. So they are yapping about "liberation" while asking you for debit card numbers.

Wouldn't be surprising if all these "accessible VPN services" are honeypots ran by same people who run DPI censorship boxes at ISP level in the first place. Or corrupt politicians that order this despotism. They've managed to completely shut down Tor network, it wouldn't be too hard to take all this out at any moment, if they really wanted to. ~2025-32013-58 (talk) 18:49, 7 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
