The judge ok'ed the settlement. The merger is poised to close next week, early October, per TheWrap. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 20:04, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just to note this here: Once the merger is actually finalized in its entirety, we shouldn't need a formal move discussion in order for the article to be retitled because then and only then it would be accurate to drop the "proposed" verbiage. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 20:09, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
What About today? ~2026-53583-31 (talk) 21:30, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Rename and moved to its called Merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery at the same article, thanks. Andre Farfan (talk) 03:02, 3 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I say we go ahead and move it. The merger is expected to finalize tomorrow. GreatWhiteEditor (talk) 20:27, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'd say a better title is just the current one, but with the "Proposed" removed from it. This is a proper acquisition and fold (similar to Disney-Fox), after all. Altendo 20:49, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's not really "proposed" anymore. GreatWhiteEditor (talk) 20:54, 5 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
So tomorrow, this should be moved to "Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance". Altendo 01:41, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Are we really sure we want to categorize this article as a merger? It was always an acquisition from day one, and merger implies that the companies merged into one despite the fact that Skydance Corporation retains the same structure it's had since 2025 as Paramount Skydance. — TheFloridaTyper (DMS) — 07:58, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'd much rather prefer we just rename this to "Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance". The term "merger" when used by the press is often just used to talk about any corporate transactions, but this deal is very much a legal acquisition (see Paramount's press room). This analogy is, once again, similar to the Disney-Fox case where Disney legally acquired 21st Century Fox and folded the company into themselves. Altendo 12:14, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
As of today, the merger was reported closed by ABC News. GreatWhiteEditor (talk) 19:45, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 6 October 2026

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance (Option A). It was uncontested that "Proposed" is no longer accurate. Among the possible new titles, Option A had overwhelming support. (closed by non-admin page mover) Adumbrativus (talk) 02:11, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance → ? – The question is: "Is the merger already closed?"

If a source is provided, then I am thinking of one of two suggested names once it is completed.

  • Option A: Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance - Paramount only acquired Warner and rebranded themselves to Skydance.
  • Option B: Merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery (or vice versa) - They actually merged into Skydance.

So what do you think? What are your opinions? Thank you. ScarletViolet ★ 11:20, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Option A This is a legal acquisition, in the same vein as the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney. The term "merger" is just a loose term for corporate transactions (hell, even Disney-Pixar in 2006 was called a "merger" by some news outlets), but this deal is a proper acquisition, just look at these releases. The "merged company" is a merger in assets, not corporate structure like most actual mergers create. Altendo 12:19, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A, only also the title Acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance, through the same on this article. Andre Farfan (talk) 13:33, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
This isn't a merger. It's a renamed Paramount Skydance following their acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The NYSE continuing from PSKY's founding date, the newsroom, and all of the press releases confirms that this is just Paramount Skydance with a new name. The same can be said for Disney following their "merger" with ABC/Capital Cities and Time Warner following their "merger" with Turner. Altendo 14:32, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
OPTION A: This is a full acquisition by Paramount, per Variety Magazine. Source: https://variety.com/2026/film/news/timeline-paramount-warner-bros-merger-skydance-1236895020/ TheGameShowFan123 (talk) 14:25, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Strong Option A, as noted by this new press release from Ellison himself (at https://www.skydance.com/news/press/paramount-completes-acquisition-of-warner-bros-discovery-creating-a-new-global-entertainment-leader-skydance), this shows how it is an acquisition. The process is Warner Bros. Discovery being acquired (or folded into) Paramount Skydance, which is then renamed to Skydance Corporation. Newyorker86 (talk) 14:40, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A: Per above. This shouldn’t have been a RM. The press makes it seem like it’s a merger, it’s really an acquisition per the docs. kpgamingz (rant on me) 14:43, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A: as other have stated above, it's a proper acquisition and not a merger.. Vestrian24Bio 14:56, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A: The renaming of the parent company to Skydance is just to indicate Paramount isn't the company's signature brand anymore. By all accounts this is an acquisition. PolarManne (talk) 15:56, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A. It is legally an aquisition. Kalpesh Manna 2002 (talk) 19:18, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option B. The bidding war technically was for the "acquisition" of Warner Bros Discovery. However, sources reporting on the antitrust lawsuits began using "merger" to describe it around that time. Also, Skydance Corporation was announced as one company, merging Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery together. It has only been said that the individual branding will be kept, not that both companies will remain. GreatWhiteEditor (talk) 19:42, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A: Reliable sources predominantly refer to this as PSKY acquiring WBD and restructuring as Skydance Corporation. Per Skydance's press release and SEC filming, this is an acquisition that results from a merger agreement. The mega deal is often described as a merger, which the article should reflect given its ginormous market share as the largest Hollywood media transaction. — Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 20:02, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A. Paramount bought Warner Bros. BEFORE they merged to become Skydance. Toshibafansandmore (talk) 21:38, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A: From Day One, this was an acquisition that began as tender offers for Warner Bros. Discovery. It's been repeatedly stated that Paramount and Warner Bros. operate as separate studios within the Skydance fold, with the only consolidation happening at the executive level momentarily. — TheFloridaTyper (DMS) — 21:47, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A: This whole deal was always about bringing in another big company for absolute power in the entertainment field. For Warner Bros. because Paramount wasn't in its best shape in recent year while WB was (and they are hungry for money), and for CNN so the Ellisons can have more news channels to please their big orange king. (This is protected by the First Amendment, even though I live in Australia and not the US) Bmona12 (talk) 00:02, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A - it's mainly an acquisition - one company buying another outright. "Merger" is only more appropriate in the case two or more companies combine with their shareholders having a stake each in the new company. Inpops (talk) 00:56, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Option A Paramount "acquired" Warner Bros Discovery for "$110 Billion" at $31 per share to form Skydance. Its a simple fact :)

Question

[edit]

I know this Is a simple quesiton im going to ask but since says in wbd Fate modified by being added merge when It was said acquired by intially just that It was added as Acquired by AND merged....this mixed with news headlines saying It as mega merger can someone help me clairfy this topic with was It an acquisition truly that or what? ~2026-57985-11 (talk) 22:07, 31 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Mergers and Acquisitions as a term are used interchangeably by news outlets. What happened with Warner Bros. Discovery was that it was acquired by Paramount Skydance. Almost immediately, Paramount Skydance renamed itself to simply Skydance Corporation, and retains the same structure it's had since Augus 2025. — TheFloridaTyper (DMS) — 00:49, 5 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

It Be Should Be Called Acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery by Paramount Skydance

Why Would Paramount Be Removed From The Title Nate The History Guy (talk) 07:19, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've now reverted the undiscussed move by @WakeFan1991. Vestrian24Bio 16:23, 4 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that because there's no reason we should still be carrying out moves for a closed merger. — TheFloridaTyper (DMS) — 00:51, 5 November 2026 (UTC)Reply
