Buses for London is an upcoming publicly owned bus company in London that will begin operations in 2027. It will initially operate London Buses route 6 from a depot in West London. Four further routes are expected to be run by the company by 2028, with a fleet of 100 vehicles.

Background

[edit]

Transport for London (TfL) currently contracts approximately 700 bus routes to private operators.[1]

The proposal for TfL to run a bus company first appeared in the business plan published in January 2026.[2]

New operator

[edit]

From 2027, the first London Buses route to be operated by the company will be London Buses route 6 that runs between Willesden and Victoria. Four further routes will begin operation in 2028.[3]

The first depot for 100 vehicles will be at Park Royal, West London. It is in the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation area and will be relocated when regeneration works take place.[1]

Creation of the company was supported by Unite the Union.[4]
