City Council winners by district

The 2025 Calgary municipal election was held on October 20, 2025, to elect a mayor and fourteen councillors to the Calgary City Council. In conjunction with the elections for city council, residents also cast ballots for trustees of the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.

Incumbent mayor Jyoti Gondek was defeated. She is the first incumbent mayor since Ross Alger in 1980 not to be elected to a second term.[1]

In the Calgary city election, only three of the 15 elected members (mayor plus 14 city councillors) were elected with majority of votes cast in the ward (or city-wide in the mayor's case). The other 12 were elected with just a minority of votes cast, with winner's percentage as low as 27 percent for two councillors, and the mayor himself elected with just 26 percent of votes cast.

Background

[edit]

The 2025 Calgary election was the first election in many years featuring municipal political parties. Three parties - Communities First, The Calgary Party, and the A Better Calgary Party - ran candidates.

Electoral system

[edit]

The mayor and each city councillor is elected in a single-winner contest using first-past-the-post voting.
