Purpose

This lets you declare a preformatted paragraph of text at a fixed position in the page.

This can be controlled with the x, y, width, origin, anchor, and alignment attributes.

Please note the default styling for pre tags is Code which comes with a base leftIndent of 36.

Example usage

<story>
    <placeXPre x="57" y="230" width="481" borderColor="red" borderWidth="1">Example Text</placeXPre>
</story>

Note: Only relevant sections are used in this snippet. Some tags were not included. See some of our samples for further insight of how you may go about setting up a full document using rml.

Example of nesting path from the parent tags to the current tag

<document> ➔ <story> ➔ <placeXPre>

Advanced usage

drawOnce - avoid overlapping placeXPre making text appear bold

If placeXPre runs repeatedly in the same spot, it can make text appear bolder. To avoid this you can use the drawOnce attribute added in rlextra 4.4.5.1.

e.g. You have a multi-page table and want to draw a footnote on a page dynamically based on the rows of data within that page.

The requirements for using this attribute are:

  • drawOnce only has an effect if it's given a non-empty string
  • it only works when the placeXPre is at the same x y
  • it only works if the origin attribute is set to 'page'

This would likely come up when using preppy to iterate through large amounts of data.

This usage also applies to the placePara tag
