DB issues
[edit]Hi,
Following these splits, it looks like the DB issue is harder than usually, or at least as interesting;
Not to mention Structured data behaviour, the issue results in a file appearing in a category while another is categorised, and the other never appearing in the category, or none at all depending on which one is categorised; you may see tests in 3 files' histories: history ex. #1 history ex. #2, history ex. #3.
Therefore, as those files can't actually be categorised, they can't be nominated for Speedy deletion –Duplicate or G7– either, since another file appears then, or none at all shows up in the maintenance categories.
The first original to keep being this one, and given that I have uploaded a new version, do you think you could process the deletion of the two remaining problematic files, File:Blason fam fr de Mailly.svg and File:Blason fam fr de Mailly (2).svg –by the way, the latter seems to see itself as the other one, per the file name showing up in File usage on Commons– ? – hoping it works,
There's no issue at all the other (red) splitted file,

- Commons take a few days to clear cache and show the updated files everywhere. Previously it used to be quick. Anyways, give it a few days and see. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:15, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Hi,
so it looks like the issues still occur…:
- File:Blason fam fr de Mailly (1).svg, which is the original upload that should be kept, doesn't show up in categories when categorised,
- File:Blason fam fr de Mailly (2).svg, which can be deleted (for convenience, uploaded by me, superseded), makes the next (#3) appear instead in the categories when categorised –and 'sees' itself as the #3, per the file name showing up in its File usage on Commons,
- File:Blason fam fr de Mailly.svg, doesn't show at all in categories when categorised. therefore it cannot be nominated for Speedy deletion as a duplicate of the superseding file I've uploaded,
--Kontributor 2K (talk) 14:58, 5 October 2026 (UTC)}}
- When you say
doesn't show up in categories when categorized, which category are you talking about? --Sreejith K (talk) 18:47, 5 October 2026 (UTC)- At least Category:Duplicate + I've just added 2 categories to file #3.
- Then, I've categorised File #2 File:Blason fam fr de Mailly (2).svg into some category, where it's actually the said File #3 that appears.
- Also, File #1 doesn't show up either in categories when categorised. --Kontributor 2K (talk)/ 21:04, 5 October 2026 (UTC)}}
- I am not an expert on this. Can you try posting this question in Commons:VPT? --Sreejith K (talk) 13:50, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- Of course, --Kontributor 2K (talk) 14:20, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Done VPT#Issues after a split. Thank you, --Kontributor 2K (talk) 16:21, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- Given the lack of enthusiasm for the discussion, I've tested some file-moves, which confirms how strange the situation is, not to say that it made things worse.
- As an inexperimented user, I'd say that a global deletion of all files and redirects -except one- would be a step forward; what do you think? -Kontributor 2K (talk) 10:02, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- Addenda: All files are definitely categorised in Category:SVG with DB Issues ---Kontributor 2K (talk) 08:50, 9 October 2026 (UTC)

Hi. I think there is something missing, either deletion or removal of the deletion request from the file page. Please have a look. --Krd 09:26, 17 October 2026 (UTC)
- I removed the DR now. --Sreejith K (talk) 19:47, 17 October 2026 (UTC)
Merged files “File:Periodic table large FIN.svg” and “File:Periodic table large.svg”
[edit]Hello Sreejithk2000, many thanks for your great work on Wikimedia Commons!
I just noticed that you have merged the files File:Periodic table large FIN.svg and File:Periodic table large.svg. I understand the idea to merge files which are just minor variants of each other, but in this case the results are a bit surprising. So I wonder if something went wrong here.
The file File:Periodic table large.svg used to show English text, but now it shows by default the Finnish text. Furthermore, the complete description of File:Periodic table large.svg is lost now, including all categories and the {{Assessments}} template. Yes, File:Periodic table large.svg was a featured picture on Wikimedia Commons, per this nomination. Now that nomination shows the Finnish version (from the old File:Periodic table large FIN.svg), too, and that’s very confusing because the promoted version was the old English version of File:Periodic table large.svg and not File:Periodic table large FIN.svg. Actually COM:OVERWRITE tells us to “[U]se caution with files that have been awarded a special status like Commons Featured Picture”, and here we see why this is necessary. Now, after the merge, everything looks as if the old File:Periodic table large FIN.svg was the file which has been awarded featured picture status. But that’s completely wrong.
In the end it seems File:Periodic table large.svg has just been replaced by File:Periodic table large FIN.svg, and that has caused a substantial confusion. People who just want to use the English periodic table (from the old version of File:Periodic table large.svg) can’t access it anymore, the featured picture status is now awarded to the wrong image, and the featured picture nomination has been falsified because it now seems to suggest that File:Periodic table large FIN.svg has been promoted to FP status (that has never happened). Wouldn’t it be the best solution just to undo the merge of the two files? Best, – Aristeas (talk) 09:34, 18 October 2026 (UTC)
