About SERP VPN

SERP VPN keeps proxy routing exactly where you need it—inside your browser. By relying on Chromium-based proxy control instead of system-wide changes, it limits proxy effects to your browsing, not your entire device. Your other apps continue using their default network connection without interruption.

Managing your Webshare routes becomes effortless. The extension loads proxy servers linked to your API key and lists them in the toolbar popup. You can switch locations instantly, without restarting the browser, and see your connection state at a glance before you start any sensitive workflow.

Because settings and proxy metadata are stored locally, your chosen route persists between sessions. The extension handles authentication at the network level, so you simply connect and browse. It’s a focused tool for anyone who wants clean separation between testing, research, and personal browsing.

Happy Users

Recent customer feedback

Short, practical feedback from people using SERP VPN in real workflows.

Simple route switching

Switching proxy locations takes one click, and the connection state is easy to check before I start research. I use it for regional page checks without opening a separate VPN app.

Lightweight privacy without the bloat

I needed browser-level proxy control without a heavy desktop client. SERP VPN keeps the API key, route choice, and status controls in the extension bar where I can actually use them.

Great for geo-specific QA testing

I test localized search results across different countries and the multi-IP routing is exactly what I needed. Switches locations cleanly without restarting the browser.

Extension permissions explained

Every requested permission and the job it performs inside the extension.

storage

Used to store your Webshare API key, the list of available proxy servers, and the current connection status locally in the browser (chrome.storage.local). This lets SERP VPN remember your settings between sessions. No browsing content is stored or sent to us.

proxy

Used to configure the browser’s proxy settings (chrome.proxy.settings) so that your traffic is routed through the Webshare proxy you select. SERP VPN only switches the proxy on or off based on your choice and does not inspect the contents of the pages you visit.

tabs

Intended for future use to react to tab changes (for example, to refresh or update tabs when the VPN connection changes). It is not currently used to read page content. You can remove this permission from wxt.config.ts before uploading if you want to minimize the requested scope.

webRequest

Used to listen for network authentication challenges via chrome.webRequest.onAuthRequired. SERP VPN uses this only to detect when a site requests proxy authentication and to attach your configured Webshare username and password. It does not inspect or modify the body of web pages.

webRequestAuthProvider

Used together with webRequest to provide proxy credentials asynchronously when the browser encounters an authentication challenge. This is required to supply your proxy username/password to the Webshare proxy server so connections succeed, and it is not used for any other purpose.

host_permissions:<all_urls>

Required so the extension can handle proxy authentication challenges for any website you visit. SERP VPN listens for authentication requests at the network level in order to provide your proxy credentials; it does not read, log, or modify the content of the pages you visit.

host_permissions:https://proxy.webshare.io/*

Used to call the Webshare API (https://proxy.webshare.io/api/v2/proxy/list/) to fetch the list of available proxy servers associated with your account. Only your API key and the proxy metadata returned by Webshare are exchanged with this domain.
