As Vogue editors, we often wax poetic on the latest runway must-haves, but not every item we gush about on this website ultimately ends up in our closets. Our discoveries are nice to behold—they’re lovely to look at and inspire fun conversation—however, of all the tempting things to buy, what did we actually end up purchasing? Each month we’ll highlight those special finds our editors welcomed into their lives—all the things that made us buyers rejoice.
Vogue Editors’ Monthly Picks:
The Fashion Week Wardrobe
“September back-to-school is always a big wardrobe refresh month, especially as we head into the fashion weeks marathon! I love these Jude mules, Róhe perfect cigarette pants, and Liberowe fringed jacket for a perfect 9 a.m. fashion show to 9 p.m. fashion dinner outfit.” —Chloe Malle, head of editorial content
The Trending Details
“I bought a few things ahead of Paris Fashion Week, including a jacquard cummerbund and a new pair of black pumps.” —Madeline Fass, fashion market director
The Classic Loafer
“After many seasons spent longing for a pair of slim black loafers, I finally pulled the trigger on G.H. Bas’s Blythes. I was drawn to their sleek, low profile, the high-shine leather, and the beefroll stitching. While they, like all stiff leather shoes, definitely require a little patience with the break-in process (though it’s not anywhere as tough as I imagined), I know I’ll be wearing them all autumn and winter.” —Hannah Jackson, senior fashion writer
The Fall Textures
“I love the rich colors and textures that come along with fall dressing. I’ve been coveting a brown suede jacket for quite some time, and I was so excited to add Sézane’s Robb style into my jacket rotation for the season. It’s a classic collared style that’s perfect for this in-between weather. I also have an affinity for cable-knit sweaters, and this cardigan from With Nothing Underneath is one that I will be wearing on repeat all fall and winter, styled with a T-shirt or a turtleneck underneath.” —Alexandra Buell, commerce producer
The Vogue World Milan Packing List
“My September purchases revolved around strategically packing for my three-night trip to Milan to work Vogue World Milan. I was very proud of myself for curating what I felt was the ultimate chic, yet comfortable early fall capsule wardrobe that somehow fit into my carry-on! I wore this very cool Matteau flannel basically every day while I ran around the Galleria in my Margaux shoes, which are the comfiest ballet flats on the market. I decided to pack trousers rather than jeans for this trip (they felt more Milanese?!), so I ended up in these ME+EM trousers and Reformation silk pants for far too many hours. Finally, this Citizens of Humanity leather jacket doubled as a blanket while I spent almost 10 hours in the MXP airport after my flight got canceled! Let’s just say, I am forever bonded with all of these clothing items.” —Florence O’Connor, content manager
The Layered Basics
“Fall in New York is my favorite time of year, so I stocked up on some cozy basics to layer under coats and sweaters as the temperatures cool. I also finally got my hands on Chimi’s Giada frames, which I’ve had on my list for months—they are truly the perfect oversized black sunglasses. Finally, with Libra season upon us, I treated myself to this zodiac pendant from Brinker and Eliza, which elevates simple outfits and is a lot more affordable than it looks.” —Fred Sahai, associate commerce producer
The Travel Accessories
“I finally got my hands on a pair of Gewls heels this month, and after wearing them for hours on end at Vogue World Milan and beyond, I can confirm that they’re the heel my wardrobe was missing. I also can’t stop reaching for The Strike from Sidia—it’s such a chic way to house a fragrance.” —Taylor Lashley, senior manager, social media
The Autumn Essentials
“I’m not someone who’s ‘excited to get into sweaters again’ (summer forever!), but one silver lining to cooling temperatures is finally getting to wear this pleated purple long-sleeve from Barcelona brand Mais x Frida on nights out—maybe along with these drop earrings from Lisbon jewelry designer Shannon Bond. In cozier acquisitions, I’ve been obsessed with this pointelle pajama set all month long, and I also picked up this turtleneck sweater. It’s made from 100% wool, and I predict it will be a wardrobe mainstay for New York’s winter.” —Elly Leavitt, lifestyle editor, shopping
The Fashion Week Accessories
“NYFW left me feeling inspired, and at the Margaux appointments, I came across their lace-up derby shoes, which I immediately needed to add to my shoe collection. I love the square-toe style. Also, if you saw me this NYFW you’ll know that I wore my Charlie Beads flower clip every single day. I love that it’s so versatile and you can pin it to your clothes or wear it as a necklace or hair accessory. I’ll be buying more!” —Irene Kim, editorial production manager
The Rain Gear
“I went birding on Cape May this past weekend (it’s the southern migration!) and tragically learned that all of my rain gear isn’t actually water-resistant. By the time I got home, I had already ordered an entirely new set of guaranteed-waterproof clothing that’s actually cute (not as easy to find as you’d think), so I won’t be caught in the storm—and drenched—again.” —Margaux Anbouba, senior beauty & wellness editor
The Peasant Blouse
“I’d been in the market for a peasant blouse for a while, and I’m not sure if this Gap shirt technically qualifies, but it’s flowy and lovely. I bought it in white, and it has become a late summer staple (‘no white after Labor Day’ be damned). It’s sort of a Sisterhood of the Traveling Blouse situation, as I have in fact spotted two other women wearing this around town. That said, I love it so much that I’m thinking about getting it in brown, too.” —Anna Lee, lifestyle writer
The Snake-Print Sandals
“I’ve been in need of an accessories refresh to liven up my wardrobe. Gripping onto the last bits of warm weather, I got snake print flip-flop kitten heels from Anonymous Copenhagen—and yes, I did sport them on my solo trip to Copenhagen, too.” —Conçetta Ciarlo, beauty writer, shopping
The Back-to-School Staples
“I’m getting ready for back to school, and in addition to stocking up for my children with Mini Rodini and Oso & Me separates, I got a new pair of High Sport pants in a kicky paisley and an Arma Emy jacket. September here we come!” —Chloe Malle, head of editorial content
The End-of-Summer Buys
“I convinced two of my colleagues a few weeks ago to come with me to Emily Dawn Long’s studio in the Lower East Side: I had designs on this slinky black set, but as it goes with shopping partners in crime, none of us left empty-handed. Valesque’s nylon tote and Xero’s rope sandals bookended the month.” —Talia Abbas, director, shopping
The Late-Summer Shopping List
“I did quite a bit of shopping this month, but of course I had a few favorites, starting with Kallmeyer’s white barrel-leg jeans, which I’ll be wearing into fall, and Comme Si’s lime green silk trousers to pair with a button-down or sweater as temperatures cool. I also got my daughter a Minnow set for our late summer travels. I did quite a bit of beauty shopping, too. This included my go-to hair serum by Rōz.” —Andrea Zendejas, commerce market editor
The LBDs
“Simple black dresses are my uniform for easy summer dressing, and I couldn’t resist adding a couple of new styles to my wardrobe, from Araks and Cou Cou.” —Minty Mellon, commerce market editor
The Fashion Week Preparations
“With New York Fashion Week around the corner, I needed to refresh my wardrobe with a few new pieces. I’ve been having a big feeling for color lately, so I purchased a classic Polo Ralph Lauren button-up in a delicious deep purple color. During NYFW, I also like to task myself with dressing up, so I bought a striped Celine tie—with a squared bottom—to step up my shirting game.” —Christian Allaire, senior fashion & style writer
The Colorful Wedges
“I had a wedding in Hawaii this month, and the invite specified to avoid stilettos or any kind of footwear that could sink into the grass. I went the wedge route, and used the opportunity to finally bite the bullet on these Maryam Nassir Zadeh sandals that I’ve wanted for what feels like forever. Even though I previously felt like I couldn’t justify a pair of bright turquoise heels, I’ve found that the shade actually goes with a lot, if you’re into fun, unexpected color combinations, like I’ve been this summer.” —Fred Sahai, associate commerce producer
The Fall Reset
“I always add a few new pairs of jeans to my closet at the end of summer in an attempt to counteract my sadness that sundress season is coming to an end, and this year was no exception! I’ve been wanting a pair of brown jeans since last autumn and finally found the perfect pair from Agolde. I’ve become so obsessed with the wash and fit of these pants that I actually found myself reaching for them over dresses even in the midst of the August heat! I also picked up a pair from Citizens of Humanity, which I know will be my go-to transition jean—they look equally as cute with a little blouse as they do with a chunky knit. (Yes, I conducted a full fashion show in my apartment to get me excited for fall dressing!) I also ‘accidentally’ tripped and fell into Dôen’s West Village store where I simply had to purchase the new ‘Florine’ top after my work bestie Irene and I convinced ourselves they named the top after us!” —Florence O’Connor, content manager
The Tiny Laptop Tote
“I have been obsessed with this bag since someone brought a sample of it into the office a month or so ago. I love the shape, the soft leather, and the saddle color, and I think it looks even better when it is slightly stuffed with all the things I apparently need to carry around every day—including my 12-inch work laptop. I conducted a highly scientific poll (of five people) in the office, and most agreed it is chic with the laptop peeking out, but not everyone was convinced (read: Sammi Tapper, director of operations, special projects). I am choosing to listen to the majority. I am determined to make it work because I really like it, even if my laptop is currently living on the edge. Fashion is about sacrifice, and apparently mine is adequate laptop coverage.” —Sache Taylor, director, special events
The Transitional Wardrobe Heroes
“Fall is my favorite season in New York City, but these new dresses in my wardrobe are keeping me happier in this warm weather. I am loving so many of Hill House Home’s feminine cotton dresses, and luckily, this Scarlette dress is perfect for both summer and fall thanks to its jewel-tones and partial sleeves. This lovely Bethilde dress from Dôen is also new to my wardrobe. Its delicate lace trim and spaghetti straps are certainly part of the appeal, but I’ll also be layering a sweater over this to extend its mileage during cooler months. The Daily sweater by Heidi Merrick is one of my absolute favorites, so I very enthusiastically decided to add another colorway into the mix, along with a pair of not-too-light but not-too-heavy linen pants.
When I was on Martha’s Vineyard this month, Edgartown’s brand-new Alex Mill store was having an embroidery event, so I jumped at the opportunity to buy a Perfect Daily tote, with my initials and a red lobster embroidered down the front. It has already been a new staple, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that, despite its compact size, it fits my laptop (and then some!). To round out the month, I finally decided to try Margaux’s Phoebe flats in this luxurious, python-embossed burgundy leather. It was love at first wear—I cannot believe how soft and comfortable the leather is!” —Alexandra Ditch, commerce producer
The Pre-Fall Accessories
“This month, I officially hopped back on the Ray-Ban Wayfarer train, and I’m very happy to be here. The style is a classic for a reason, and it’s quickly earned a permanent spot in my sunnies rotation. And with fall on my mind, I’ve also started thinking about the pieces I’ll be reaching all season long. Enter the Zip clutch pouch from Liffner in the perfect burgundy, a new addition I already know will be a staple in my fall wardrobe.” —Taylor Lashley, senior manager, social media
The One-of-a-Kind Bag
“I love a bag that feels like you discovered it, rather than something you have seen everywhere. That is what drew me to Booch Bags—the unexpected fabrics, the beautiful Italian leather, and the fact that each one feels so individual. They are special without being precious, which is exactly how I want my accessories to feel. And because each fabric is made in such a limited run, you are unlikely to spot the exact same one twice. Plus, the surprise lining inside? A very good little fashion secret.” —Rose Carlisle, manager, special events
The Sun Protection
“I restocked my large Supergoop! Play Sunscreen for a final summer vacation! It comes with a pump dispenser and is absolutely easiest way to make sure you’re always slathered in SPF, plus the dewy finish just looks sexy in the sun!” —Margaux Anbouba, senior beauty & wellness editor
The Mid-Summer Accessories
“I’m loving Merlette’s wrap skirt and this Araks polka dot bikini! A basket bag is my favorite summer accessory!” —Chloe Malle, head of editorial content
The Resort-Ready Picks
“I’ll be heading to Greece next week for a quick summer holiday, so naturally, my cart has been filled with all resort-ready pieces. I’ve been on the hunt for fun accessories and statement dresses to fill what will be my very overpacked carry-on. Some recent purchases (and a panic splurge later), below.” —Minty Mellon, commerce market editor
The Fall-Ready Attire
“I am dreaming of a cold New York, and apparently my recent purchases are reflecting exactly that. The latest addition is this beautifully tailored Tory Burch jacket, and it feels like the kind of piece that makes you wish for crisp mornings, wool trousers, and a reason to wear a proper coat. It has that polished, quietly elegant energy that somehow makes me excited for fall. I also just bought another pair of these Mansur Gavriel ballet flats. I’m planning to take them to Leather Spa to see if they can add the slightest bit of a heel—just enough to make me feel a little fancier powerwalking through the office.” —Sache Taylor, director, special events
The Wardrobe Reset
“I’ve been feeling spendy—maybe it’s the upcoming season, or my current season of new-ish motherhood, but either way, I’ve been feeling the urge to purge and splurge. I’m hunting for modern classics that I can wear on park dates, play dates, and beyond.” —Cortne Bonilla, senior shopping writer
The Lavender Flats
“I went on a trip to Paris, and my friend Sylvia told me that I needed to get a pair of Repettos. I was always hesitant to get another pair of ballet flats considering I have so many, but I have to say that the Repettos have changed my life! At the store in Paris, they were so attentive to finding me the right size, and the new summer colors were so fun. I’m so into the color purple these days and this lilac pair was luckily in stock for me to get on my trip.” —Irene Kim, editorial production manager
The Chic Swimwear
“I picked up some new swimwear ahead of my August vacation from LA brand Slate Swim—their palette is so pretty. I also found a couple small jewelry pieces from Agatha Paris (I’m working on amassing a cuff collection) and Agapée.” —Elly Leavitt, lifestyle editor, shopping
The Ethereal Additions
“To know me is to know that 80% of my wardrobe consists of pretty little white blouses and dresses! I can simply never have enough, so I picked up a few more from Hill House Home before a weekend getaway, and let me tell you, they were the backbone of my trip! I was, however, very inspired by the Vogue Runway package on color and decided to take the challenge on myself. I have been eyeing the brand Mais x Frida for a while, so I decided that the Rita top in red would be the perfect way to inject more color into my wardrobe. Although, I will probably wear it with a pretty little white skirt!” —Florence O’Connor, content manager
The Laid-Back Look
“I sound like a broken record, but I got another Cou Cou Intimates Rina top. I am hopping on this summer’s Breton top trend and got their new striped colorway. I also purchased two things that I felt were lacking in my closet: dramatic shield sunglasses and white footwear. Finally, I picked up a pair of micro mini shorts from NYC-based brand Amelia Designs, as I’ve been favoring a sporty, laid-back look on the weekends.” —Fred Sahai, associate commerce producer
The New England Aesthetic
“I’ve recently discovered the brand Minnow, and I love their lightweight cotton pieces for easy layering on beach days. I picked up this gingham pareo, and this red-trimmed mini dress, and booked my next trip back to Martha’s Vineyard! I can’t wait to throw these on over my swimsuits, pick up some lobster rolls, and bike to my favorite beach on the island.
Also along the lines of this New England aesthetic are my new button-up shirts from Brooks Brothers. I love that, much like the Minnow items, these shirts are completely made of cotton. They’re perfectly tailored classics.” —Alexandra Ditch, commerce producer
The Versatile Summertime Staples
“With my summer holiday just around the corner, this month I gravitated toward pieces that can transition seamlessly from vacation to city life. That’s what drew me to this mini dress from Posse, and a Dôen raffia clutch I’d been eyeing for a while.” —Taylor Lashley, senior manager, social media
