Motorola’s next phone is a top-tier premium device set to feature one of the world's most powerful smartphone processors.
The Motorola Signature 27 has yet to be formally announced, but the brand is teasing various features, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform. Motorola says the processor will deliver "powerful on-device AI capabilities, enhanced camera experiences, and faster speeds," although it has yet to reveal specific new features.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, also announced today, is likely to power many of the top-end Android phones over the next 12 months. This is the first phone with a confirmed US launch, but we may also see it featured in future Samsung phones and in other harder-to-find brands like OnePlus, Honor, and Xiaomi.
That new processor is paired with an ArcticMesh cooling system, which Motorola says uses a diamond-infused thermal gel alongside liquid metal, copper mesh, and a redesigned vapor chamber, resulting in a system that's 40% larger than on previous generations.
Despite the "27" in its name, this is the second-gen Motorola Signature phone; we saw the first at CES earlier this year. It's named for the upcoming year, much like Apple has adopted 26 and 27 for its operating system names.
Motorola also showed off the phone’s design, including two color options: Coal Smoke, which is a dark gray, with a “Tactial Weave” design; and a Capulet Green shade with a brushed textile-inspired finish.
There are four cameras on the rear, arranged in a section spread over two rows. That includes a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYTIA 910 sensor and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. Motorola has yet to clarify what the other cameras will be.
The Signature 27 runs Android 17 and promises seven years of operating system updates. Bang & Olufsen is also involved in a new partnership with Motorola to help its phones set a "new standard in audio," although we don't yet know what influence the music specialists will have.
Expect more Signature 27 details in the coming months ahead of a release later this year.
