macrochip
A multicore CPU chip proposed by Sun that used optical communications between its cores. Known as the "Rock" and announced in 2008, it was funded by DARPA as part of its Ultraperformance Nanophotonic Intrachip Communications (UNIC) project. The macrochip endeavor was cancelled in 2010 before Sun was acquired by Oracle. See DARPA.
