AI does the most good when it strengthens human capability, and the most harm when it substitutes for it. 🎓 That’s the thread running through Learning Curves, a collection of research essays from the Microsoft AI Economy Institute on how AI is reshaping education, from classrooms to careers. Its starting point: AI adoption runs above 70% in countries like the UAE and in the low single digits across much of sub-Saharan Africa, and the choices we make now will determine who has access to the opportunity it affords. 88% of educators have used AI for school. More than half have never been trained. 🎓 That gap is one of the findings behind Microsoft Elevate for Educators, which just recognized over 54,000 Expert and Fellow educators and 1,100+ Showcase schools for putting AI to work in their classrooms. And two-thirds of surveyed educators say they’d like training monthly or quarterly. Worth a read if you’re building for schools, it shows what educators are asking for: https://lnkd.in/grXbg7TP

Missed a lecture? Now there’s a way to catch up. 🎓 Bar-Ilan University piloted an AI agent on its learning platform: students search and summarize course materials and quiz themselves, in Hebrew, Arabic and English. It only draws on what lecturers upload, and after a pilot across 71 courses and about 2,400 students, it’s heading to 100 more this semester. Built by KPMG and OpenApp with Copilot Studio, a good example of partners turning AI into something students actually use. Worth a read: https://lnkd.in/dJQ5decW

What do leaders actually expect from AI? Start with the problem, measure the value for the people you serve, scale responsibly. 🎯 A good watch for anyone building for organizations like this 👇
In the latest episode of the AI-Ready Executive series, Alan Murray, Chief Data and Technology Officer at Teach For America, explains why organizations should focus on the problem they're trying to solve before thinking about the technology itself. Alan argues that AI adoption shouldn't be treated as the finish line. The real measure of success is whether it's creating meaningful value for the organization and the people it serves. He shares how Teach For America is helping teachers use AI in practical ways, like making learning materials more accessible for bilingual students and creating new classroom experiences that encourage critical thinking. The conversation explores what's required to scale AI responsibly, including balancing innovation with governance through what Alan describes as a "walled garden" approach. 🎥 Watch the full interview: https://lnkd.in/e7wW-_cf

AI is only as good as the trust it earns. 🎓 Microsoft just laid out its commitment to AI in education, grounded in the same question educators and parents keep asking: are students still doing the thinking, and are the tools they use safe? Five principles ground it: → Safety, privacy, security and transparency by design → Educators remain in control and at the center of AI use → AI supports learning, not replaces thinking → AI strengthens education systems, from learning to discovery → Every student prepared for an AI-powered future Worth a read if you're building AI tools for schools: https://lnkd.in/eF_SzeTQ

A striking data point for anyone building AI-powered solutions in underserved markets: AI adoption keeps growing everywhere, but not evenly. 📊 Global North sits at 28.8%, Global South at 16.2% with notably higher education and learning use in the Global South. The report also points to why open-weight models matter: lower costs, easier adaptation to local languages, and real headroom if infrastructure, connectivity and skills keep pace. Worth a look if you're building for these markets: https://lnkd.in/eAhQgGHZ
Today, we published the latest Global AI Diffusion Report, offering a new look at how AI adoption is evolving around the world. In June, AI usage reached 18.8% of the global working-age population, with growth across almost every economy. The data also shows that adoption is not happening evenly. The gap between the Global North and Global South continued to widen, with usage reaching 28.8% in the North and 16.2% in the South. At the same time, we’re seeing important differences in how AI is being used. One of the clearest is the higher share of education and learning use across the Global South. The report also looks at the growing role of open-weight models, which could help lower costs and enable adaptation to local languages and needs, while underscoring the continued importance of infrastructure, connectivity and skills. Posted during this year's UNGA 🌍 A good reminder that lasting impact comes from pairing technology with the right people and processes, relevant well beyond the UN, including for anyone building solutions in this space.
Eight months after Microsoft pledged support for UN80, momentum is building. More than 4,000 UN system personnel have received responsible AI training, a cohort of 27 UN Changemakers Fellows are beginning a new journey, and practical solutions are helping reduce routine work and enable humanitarian teams to act faster. Together with a growing coalition of 16 partners, Microsoft is helping move UN80 from pledge to action and from proof to scale. The lesson is clear. Lasting impact happens when technology is paired with people, practical processes and clear ownership. Read more about the progress we’re making.
