Congratulations to Becket on this exciting step forward. Expanding integrated youth services in Newfoundland and Labrador means more young people will have access to the care and support they need, closer to home. I'm proud to share this message in recognition of this important milestone.
Becket is growing! 🎉 We're thrilled to announce Becket Labrador — the third Becket Integrated Youth Services hub in Newfoundland and Labrador. Led by the Labrador Friendship Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Becket Labrador will make it easier for young people in the region to access mental health support, primary care, housing, employment services, and other community supports — all through one coordinated network. This is another important step toward our vision of building a province-wide network of Becket hubs, so young people can access the care they need closer to home. Welcome to the Becket network, Labrador! Supported by Choices for Youth and NL Health Services, Becket connects youth where they are, supporting them when and where they need it. From mental health, primary care, employment, housing, and community support, Becket offers free, low-barrier care in a safe, non-judgmental space 🧡 We extend our deepest gratitude to all of our community and philanthropic partners who allow us to help youth in the province, and we look forward to continuing to transform youth wellbeing together ✨ Our Community and Philanthropic Partners: Choices for Youth, NL Health Services, Vine Place Community Centre, Labrador Friendship Centre, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Health Canada | Santé Canada (Healthy Canadians), Graham Boeckh Foundation, Bell Let's Talk, Bell Cause pour la cause, The Northpine Foundation, RBC, Medavie Blue Cross / Croix Bleue Medavie, GreenShield, McConnell Foundation / Fondation McConnell, CFY's Youth Leadership and Advisory Council, and the Provincial Youth Advisory Council. As Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon concludes her historic tenure as Canada’s Governor General, I want to express my deep gratitude for her extraordinary service to our country. As Canada’s first Indigenous Governor General, she has led with wisdom, compassion, and purpose—reminding us that reconciliation is a responsibility we must live every day. Her commitment to mental health has been especially impactful, bringing national attention to the needs of Northern, remote, and Indigenous communities—amplifying voices too often unheard and helping to reduce stigma through open dialogue. We have been proud to see this work reflected and shared through Bell Let’s Talk, including the Promoting Mental Health and Wellness from Coast to Coast to Coast report, capturing insights gathered throughout her tour. Her leadership has reinforced an important truth we champion every day: that mental health is essential to our overall well-being, and real progress happens when we come together to listen and take action.
Today’s launch of Ajuinnata: The Mary Simon Catalyst for Mental Wellness marked the beginning of an important new chapter — one that honours the profound legacy of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, and reflects a shared commitment to supporting Northern communities. We were privileged to gather with government representatives, community leaders, partners, and supporters to mark this important occasion and look ahead to the impact this program will nurture in the years to come. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this important milestone, including the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada and the Right Honourable David Johnston, former Governor General of Canada and founder of Rideau Hall Foundation. 📸 Highlights from today’s ceremony.
