It's useful to compare the personal income tax rates of Namibia and South Africa to give insights into the relative tax burdens, income distribution, and incentives for work and investment. The effective tax rates intersect at two crucial points - two key income thresholds where individuals experience a shift in tax advantages between the two countries. South Africa is a more favourable tax environment for those earning between N$/R52,941 - N$/R705,058 per annum (or N$/R4,412 - N$/R58,755 per month), but Namibia is more attractive for those earning an annual salary greater than N$/R705,058. A monthly gross salary of N$/R250,000 is taxed at an effective rate of 30.7% in Namibia, versus 38.2% in South Africa - a post-tax difference of nearly N$/R20,000 extra per month - and of course, this gap grows as income increases. Although in theory, those earning less than N$/R52,941 per annum retain more income residing in Namibia, the 1% Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on gross salary paid by South Africans means the latter could be more beneficial if employees are in jobs where retrenchment is relatively more likely (e.g. seasonal occupations). With their closely tied economies, similar cost of living, cultures and socio-economic factors, Namibia could be an ideal destination for wealthy South Africans looking to migrate to a familiar feeling country with more favourable conditions - not to mention the load-shedding crisis in South Africa, and the recent discoveries of astronomical amounts of commercially viable oil in Namibia, which bodes well for GDP prospects and employment opportunities. *South Africa's effective tax rate is inclusive of the 1% Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on gross salary, which is capped at an annual payment of R2,125.44. The tax threshold and rebates illustrated in the graph considers South Africans below age 65 - the working-age population. This means that working-age South Africans pay normal income tax once their annual income surpasses R95,750.

This is a wonderful assessment thank you my friend. Unfortunately Namibia has a limited amount of jobs for professionals especially of high income brackets.

Very interesting analysis, although there may be some grey areas. For instance, one has to consider the impact of the remarkably different population sizes of SA and NAM on their tax policies.

This is concise and insightful. You've definitely convinced me!

Ideal destination indeed, guaranteed that they can transfer their equivalent income across the border (opportunity-wise). Unless that is fixed. Make sure to factor that decision accurately. 😉

Gonna send this to my South African friends to try and get them to relocate to Namibia🤓

Great analysis, its just about falling into the right income bracket before making the move 😅

Wow, this is very impressive 👏
