A nationwide 100LL shortage is not the most likely scenario heading into 2027. The more important issue is a supply chain with less redundancy. U.S. avgas production has remained relatively steady, but fewer refineries now produce it. That means a delayed production run, delivery disruption, or local inventory problem can have a greater regional impact than it once did. Our latest article examines the economics behind 100LL production, the potential effect on pilots and flight schools, and practical steps operators can take to prepare for temporary supply disruptions. An important milestone for ITER Organization and a strong example of engineering challenges being turned into progress. Repair and integration of components at this scale demand exceptional precision, coordination and engineering rigor. Great to see the Vacuum Vessel assembly moving forward. #ITER #FusionEnergy #MechanicalEngineering #NuclearEngineering #Engineering
With today’s official handover of vacuum vessel sector #3 to the assembly team, a nearly three-year bevel repair campaign has been successfully completed. After irregularities were found in the bevels—the edges where the sectors will be welded together to form the tokamak’s plasma chamber—ITER launched a repair campaign in partnership with SIMANN (SIMIC and Ansaldo Nucleare). “This is a very good ending to a project that began with a great deal of uncertainty,” said ITER project leader Nicolas Sapet before signing the documents marking the official handover of vacuum vessel sector #3 from SIMANN. “Thanks to the excellent work of our teams and industrial partners, we have completed the repairs that are essential for the project to move forward.” The ITER plasma chamber is composed of nine vacuum vessel sectors. Six are currently in place in the tokamak pit, and the final three will be installed over the next eight months—putting this phase of tokamak assembly six months ahead of the current baseline schedule.
