Plenty has been written on the Ming Yang decision as a security story. The bit that interests the Stout Offshore Energy team sits a layer down – what it means for everyone behind the turbine.   More weight now falls on Vestas, Siemens, and the Tier 2 ecosystem behind them – installation, ports, commissioning, specialist engineering – to deliver the UK's offshore wind targets. Vestas' conditional UK factory is a welcome start, but the supply chain doesn't expand on its own.   Expect more carve-outs, strategic partnerships and capital raises across that layer over the next 12–24 months. Stout’s Managing Director, Jon Howells, and Edward Cope recently attended the Offshore Wind Journal Conference 2026, where whether Europe’s offshore wind slowdown is temporary or structural was debated. Despite higher capex and financing costs, the consensus was that growth hit a ‘road bump’ but has not stalled. Today’s declaration between the UK and European neighbours shows the North Sea's strength as a major engine of #offshorewind power, with the potential to capture huge amounts of #investment. Financiers require stable, long-term frameworks to deploy capital at scale. The recent record-breaking AR7 wind auction underscored the sector's capacity to unlock billions of pounds of private capital, fuelling jobs and growth. The government’s continued backing of credible clean energy policies is crucial for sustaining investor confidence and maintaining the UK’s position as an attractive, investable market. https://lnkd.in/eBJhiHAx

Despite the promise of lower cost offshore wind, politics has intervened based on perceived security risks from Chinese suppliers. That said, the UK government appears to have preserved a role for domestic #WTG manufacturing, albeit at a smaller scale than originally envisaged with Ming Yang. Security considerations aside, this is a clear win for localisation and domestic capability. It also reinforces a broader trend: government policy is increasingly shaping supply chains, not just markets. Whether this ultimately delivers lower system costs is another question, but it likely strengthens the position of Western OEMs in future #onshore and #offshore #wind deployment in Europe. https://lnkd.in/e6NUcBNY
