Home Lab, Rebuilt with AI What started as a simple home server turned into a much deeper infrastructure upgrade. I used Claude Code directly on my Ubuntu server to audit the environment, map dependencies, measure real DNS performance, and then rebuild the critical pieces step by step — with backups, tests, and automatic rollback before every risky change. The results were surprisingly measurable. DNS p99 latency dropped from ~490ms to ~250ms, and the worst observed response went from 22 seconds to ~0.4 seconds — a 98% reduction in the worst-case latency. Typical latency increased from ~8ms to ~17ms because DNS is now encrypted and validated, but the system became much more predictable. And since the migration, we’ve had 0 client DNS failures in monitoring. The bigger improvement wasn't just performance. DNS is now protected with DNS-over-TLS + DNSSEC, the production containers are intentionally isolated from the ad-blocking layer, remote access is handled through a secure mesh VPN, public services remain behind Cloudflare Tunnel with no exposed router ports, and the infrastructure is monitored automatically. Even the new blocking rules were simulated against real traffic before being deployed — which exposed conflicts with work tools before they could become a problem. And the part I enjoy most: I did most of this from my phone, over SSH, with Claude Code running directly on the server. It wasn't just generating commands — it inspected the system, found hidden dependencies, measured the impact, hit a real configuration problem, rolled it back in seconds, investigated the cause, and helped me apply the fix safely. That's starting to feel less like “using an AI assistant” and more like having an engineering partner available whenever I need it. How are you using AI in your own home lab or infrastructure? AI is no longer just writing boilerplate code; it is now writing nearly a fifth of the Linux Kernel. 📈 AI-generated code accounted for 17.25% of all Linux Kernel patches this September, showing how deeply LLMs are integrating into core infrastructure. 🔒 Google confirmed its Gemini model breached three real companies in May during security tests by guessing a password and reusing credentials from a public repository. 🧠 StepFun released Step 5 Preview, a sparse Mixture-of-Experts model with 600 billion total parameters, 27 billion active parameters, and a 1-million token context window. These developments highlight two massive shifts happening simultaneously. On one hand, LLMs are proving highly capable of handling complex, low-level software engineering tasks and long-horizon agentic workflows. On the other hand, the security implications of autonomous agents are becoming highly practical risks. When an AI can successfully navigate credential reuse to breach real corporate networks, our traditional perimeter security models must evolve. I came across something recently that I hadn't seen talked about much: TRACE — Trust, Runtime Attestation and Compliance Evidence. The name sounds heavy. The idea is actually pretty simple. As AI agents become capable of taking real actions, we're going to need more than logs. Imagine an agent changes a production configuration. Later, someone asks: What exactly ran? Not just: “the agent did it.” But: which model ran? which code and runtime were used? what policy was active? what data did it touch? which tools were called? where did it run? TRACE is an open specification for creating a signed, verifiable record of an agent run so another party can independently verify that evidence. It's now being developed under the Linux Foundation, with support from companies including AMD, Intel, Microsoft, OPAQUE and TII. What I find interesting is the shift in mindset. Traditional observability asks: “What happened?” TRACE is moving toward: “Can you prove what happened?” That's a very different requirement. And it becomes important when agents start operating: → Infrastructure → Databases → Security systems → Enterprise workflows We're used to securing software with identity, permissions and audit logs. Agentic systems may need to add verifiable execution evidence to that stack. The more I explore AI infrastructure, the more I think this is where the space is heading: Agents won't just need to be capable. Their actions will need to be traceable, governed and verifiable. NVIDIA launched its Open Agent Safety Platform today, with OpenShell and NVIDIA Sentry. OpenShell isolates AI agents and checks their outbound requests against policy. Thats a solid step. But a request can pass every policy check and still be the wrong action. Recent research has shown AI agents obeying instructions hidden in data they read, and automated tools making changes for people with no right to make them. Each control did its job. None checked the action itself. This isnt a new problem. Security researchers articulated the principle in 1975: complete mediation. Every access gets checked. Applied to AI agents, that means checking more than where a request goes: who the agent is acting for, what it is about to do, and whether that change should take effect where it lands. My paper, "From Complete Mediation to Last-Mile Authorization," builds on that principle to propose ten criteria for evaluating authorization, whether the actor is an AI agent or conventional software. 👓 Verification is becoming the missing layer of the agentic stack 💥 This week the Advanced AI Society joined the Linux Foundation and launched Proof-of-Control v1.0, an open standard aimed at making AI agent execution continuously verifiable by independent third parties, not just the vendor running the agent. It lands squarely amid a Congressional push for real-time oversight of autonomous agents that act faster than any human can review manually. As someone working inside the Linux Foundation AI & Data Open Voice Interoperability Initiative ecosystem on interoperability protocols like OFP, I find this encouraging: the industry is starting to treat verifying an agent as seriously as getting agents to talk to each other in the first place. Verifiability and interoperability are really two sides of the same coin — neither means much without the other. We have physically seized control of the Linux Kernel security path, and their entire cybersecurity model is now obsolete. 🔒🐧 For decades, Silicon Valley has sold you a multi-billion-dollar lie. They built an industry on a broken paradigm: RUN → WATCH → DETECT → REACT. They let malicious code, corrupted files, and drifting AI agents execute on your servers first, and then expect a dashboard to clean up the blood afterward. I permanently flipped the arrow of time. My framework, Supreme Computation OS (SCQOS), inserts a non-permissive pre-execution gate directly into the heart of the operating system core (exec). The new universal directive is absolute: REQUEST → PROVE → AUTHORIZE → EXECUTE. The millisecond a process requests an action, the silicon physically freezes it in mid-air. If that process cannot cryptographically prove 100% alignment across Time, Continuity, Alignment, Genesis, Boundary, Reference, Causality, and Observer accountability, the system returns a hard kernel-level denial. The space where data breaches, hacks, and AI hallucinations can exist has been mathematically deleted from the hardware.
