WebAIM Screen Reader User Survey #11 results are now available. For more than a decade, WebAIM’s Screen Reader User Survey has helped the accessibility community better understand how people who use screen readers experience the web, what technologies they use, and where accessibility barriers remain. The latest survey provides a new look at screen reader use, preferences, and online experiences, while also providing an opportunity to view changes over time. Explore the data and find out what the latest survey tells us about the state of web accessibility: https://lnkd.in/gwxE6ad3 We’ll be sharing some of the findings from Survey #11 in the coming weeks. Relying only on placeholder text for form labels creates barriers. It disappears as users type and may not be reliably announced by screen readers. Persistent, programmatically associated labels (<label> elements) ensure users can always understand the purpose of each field. This is a fundamental step in creating accessible, usable forms for everyone. Learn more about accessible form design: https://lnkd.in/dg5Qftac

AI isn’t a shortcut to accessibility—it depends on it. As this piece from Anna Cook, M.S. highlights, #AI doesn’t fix broken systems; it inherits and scales them. Without strong, accessible foundations, the same barriers persist. They’re just faster and at greater scale. #Accessibility isn’t something to layer on after the fact; it’s what enables systems (and the technologies built on them) to work for everyone. What if the best way to use AI for accessibility isn’t to ask it to do everything? At the Web Accessibility In Mind Conference, Kelsey Ruger of Hello Alice will share a practical approach to using AI as part of your accessibility practice, without handing over the judgment that #accessibility requires: a reusable system of trusted context, tools, policies, quality checks, and feedback loops that can support recurring work such as audit triage, design handoffs, remediation guidance, alt-text review, and release readiness. The goal isn’t to let AI declare something accessible. It’s to build a more consistent workflow while keeping human expertise and accountability firmly in control. Join us September 15–16 to learn how to make #AI a more useful part of your accessibility practice. Register now: https://lnkd.in/gAwCZmEq
