Neural Cartographies with our own Eric Rodenbeck!
Join us on Tuesday September 29th at 4:30 for metaLAB's first Work-share & Mingle of the 2026-2027 academic year! We are thrilled to have Eric Rodenbeck come and share his work on "Archives, LLMs, data visualization and where they connect." Eric Rodenbeck is the founder of Stamen and a Lecturer in Advanced Studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His MetaLab talk connects 25 years of data visualization practice with his teaching at Harvard, from Re-imagining the Archive to his upcoming course, Neural Cartographies. Moving among archives, collections, brains, and machine-learning models, Rodenbeck will consider how design changes when machines become participants in making meaning. The talk is also an invitation to researchers, institutions, and potential project partners interested in what these systems make visible, what they leave out, and how we might work with them. |////////////////////////////////////| 🧠 4:30-5:30 pm: Work-share discussion, 1st floor 🍻 5:30-6:30 pm: Reception & mingle, 4th floor metaLAB offices 📍42 Kirkland Street, Cambridge

Delighted to announce I've been invited to give a talk about 'Archives, LLMs, data vizualization, and where they connect" at Harvard's MetaLab in late September! I'll be sharing some thoughts on recent Stamen work and some of the work of my brilliant students at Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Next month at the #Outlier2026 #dataviz conference, Stamen founder and CEO Eric Rodenbeck will give the keynote presentation: "There’s a Crack in Everything: Gaps, Seams, and the Work of Knowing"
🚀 Big news! We’re thrilled to announce Eric Rodenbeck as our keynote speaker for the 2026 Outlier Conference! 🎉 Eric, founder of Stamen and Lecturer at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, will bring over two decades of groundbreaking work in data visualization and online mapping to his keynote, “There’s a Crack in Everything: Gaps, Seams, and the Work of Knowing.” Rather than treating failure as something to be fixed, Eric invites us to see breakdowns, gaps, and seams in data visualization as rich sources of inquiry and revelation. ✨ 📅 This year’s conference is fully virtual, so you can join us from anywhere! Don’t miss out—register today! → https://lnkd.in/eVju2gTC #Outlier2026 #DataViz #Datavis

We want to hear about your map tools! Hey designers, developers, cartographers, or anyone who works with maps: we want to know what tools you use to wrangle geospatial data, design maps online, or to collaborate with people who do. We extended the deadline to May 15 for Stamen's Cartographic Tooling Survey, please take a few minutes to fill it out! https://lnkd.in/g-nBSkDa We will share our results at the upcoming OpenStreetMap US "State of the Map US" conference in June! #cartography #design #maps #geospatial
