Simvia at the 5th Automotive CFD Prediction Workshop On 8–9 October in Bologna, Simvia will present an assessment of code_saturne, EDF’s open-source CFD solver, for automotive aerodynamics. Our contribution focuses on the Windsor squareback at 2.5° yaw, one of the reference configurations of the workshop, and explores the path from steady RANS to hybrid RANS–LES. Using k–ω SST and SST-DDES, the results show that: 🔹Steady RANS integrated coefficients fall within the scatter of previous AutoCFD submissions 🔹RANS limitations remain visible in the prediction of base suction, wake recovery and turbulent kinetic energy 🔹SST-DDES recovers the experimental turbulence level, but on a RANS-designed grid the near wake remains under-resolved and turbulence develops too far downstream 🔹Improving the near-wake resolution promotes earlier shear-layer development and recovers part of the drag deficit, highlighting the sensitivity of hybrid RANS-LES to mesh resolution in the separated shear layer. A practical demonstration of what can be achieved with an open-source, industrially supported CFD solver for automotive aerodynamics. https://lnkd.in/e_Pmm7VK See you in Bologna! #AutoCFD #CFD #code_saturne #Automotive #Aerodynamics #RANS #DDES #OpenSource

It’s today. 🚀 At 12 noon, we’re opening the doors to Platine Master for the very first time: our finite element simulation-based column base plate design tool (code_aster), right in your browser. 45 minutes to see the tool in action on real-world scenarios : geometry, loads, cloud-based calculations and results. But above all, to tell us about the real challenges you face with calculations, help shape our development priorities, and join the beta-testing programme if you’re up for the adventure. Just a few places left. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eRnGk8EY See you at 12 noon. 👋 #StructuralEngineering #FEM #CodeAster #Webinar #Construction

A 100% open-source workflow to predict the hydrodynamic drag of a submarine, how far can open-source CFD go? code_saturne, EDF’s open-source CFD solver, is best known for applications in the energy sector. We wanted to test its capabilities on a reference case in naval hydrodynamics: the DARPA SUBOFF submarine Key results: - Hydrodynamic drag predicted with less than 4% error across the full experimental speed range - Wall pressure and velocity profiles at the propeller plane in good agreement with published experimental data - A deliberately lightweight mesh of 459,000 cells, representative of an early-stage design study What makes this case interesting isn't just the accuracy, it's that no step of the pipeline relies on proprietary software: - meshing with snappyHexMesh, followed by conversion to MED format with meshlane - setup, launch and monitoring of the different simulations with csauto, our orchestration tool for code_saturne - post-processing with ParaView and pvpython 👉 https://lnkd.in/e-__Pk_3 At Simvia, we help industrial teams adopt open-source simulation tools like code_saturne and build workflows that fit their exact needs, whatever their industry. Curious what this could look like for your own use case? Let's talk. #CFD #code_saturne #OpenSource #DARPA #SUBOFF

Base plates are not perfectly rigid. Their flexibility changes how loads are shared between the anchors and the concrete. Platine Master captures this behaviour with a finite element model in code_aster, and you can see the load distribution directly in your browser. We are showing it for the first time next Tuesday, 29 September, at 12:00 Paris time, with a live demo in 45 minutes. Then it's your turn. Your feedback will set our development priorities, and those who want to go further can apply for our beta-testing programme. Register here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eRnGk8EY

How many hours has your team spent this month designing column base plates? Do the maths. 2 to 4 hours. Per base plate. On most structural steel projects. Always the same design workflow. Always just as time-consuming. What if you could reclaim that time? Platine Master allows you to design columns base plates using finite element analysis (code_aster), directly from your browser: → No installation → No reliance on a specific software package → A reliable calculation, in a fraction of the usual time The prototype is already up and running, and we need your expert input to take it further. 📅 See you on 29 September 2026, from 12.00 pm to 12.45 pm. You’ll see the tool in action : covering geometry, loads, cloud-based calculations and results. But above all, this will be your moment: your day-to-day challenges, your priorities, and exclusive access to the beta-testing programme to help shape the tool to your needs. 👉 Interested?
