We’re always talking about the “unfair advantage” here at our venture lab. But what does that actually mean for a founder? This time, hear it directly from Gerrit McGowan, as he shares what this means for his startup, Kukan AI. ⏰ We're still looking for startups building across our active CORE topics: Tuning the Mind of AI and Photonic Sensors. Are you looking for a technical partner to help take your technology further? Apply now to be considered for the next round of screening → https://lnkd.in/e9re6fmp Deadline: October 9th #TechTransfer #Startups #DeepTech #ExplainableAI #Photonics

Five features. Five very different problems. At our internal Portfolio Day, startups building inside our venture lab at Fraunhofer HHI shared what they've shipped recently. A few stood out enough to share more widely: 🏗️ Architects can now generate building renderings in seconds with Projected's new AI tool 🛡️ AI teams can now catch 99% of malicious prompts in real time with Layerwise 🏢 Property teams can now "talk to" their buildings using their own AI, thanks to Kukan AI's new MCP integration 🐖 Pharma researchers can now test across more species and platforms with iMouse GmbH 🐾 Vets can now see why an AI flagged a sample as cancerous, with testblu diagnostics' new explainability layer Full breakdown of each, and the tech behind them, is on the blog: https://lnkd.in/dfg49bww And if you're an investor, several of these teams (plus more) will be pitching at our Demo Day on October 8th. Comment if you'd like to attend and we will send you the registration link!

🔬 Bench ➡️ 💠 Chip LEFT: This is how precision optical sensing has worked for decades: lasers, mirrors and lenses, painstakingly aligned by hand. Touch one part, and the whole setup breaks. RIGHT: This is what we build at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI. The entire setup on the right shrunk onto a single chip, using hybrid photonic integration to combine multiple materials in one place. What it means: sensors that can measure vibration, biochemical markers, magnetic fields or 3D space, small enough and robust enough to actually leave the lab. What startups can do: build their sensing product on this infrastructure, or bring their own chip design and have it packaged into a working device, fully paid, fully supported, no need for your own cleanroom. We've opened this up to 2 startups. Details on our new CORE Topic, Photonic Sensors, are live now. 👇 https://lnkd.in/dCQM6qzW

NVIDIA is hosting Build-A-Claw session! It's a free, hands-on community event for developers working with agents, open models, and physical Al. No GTC conference pass required. Here's what you should expect: → Get hands-on with autonomous agents and open models running on NVIDIA hardware including DGX Spark and DGX Station → Compete in the Live Agent Gauntlet a head-to-head challenge where your agent must independently discover hidden tools and tackle multimodal puzzles across text, image, audio, and video → Hear technical talks from NVIDIA and ecosystem builders → Meet European startups and research teams building with the agentic stack → Walk away with free Brev compute credits to keep building This is a great chance to get in the room with the people and hardware shaping the next generation of Al in Europe - the weekend before GTC Berlin opens. Some of our team members will also be there! Limited capacity. Registration required. LEAPing into Berlin's quantum scene, our colleague Travis Todd presents our latest call for startups build with our photonics labs at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI 🐸 (More info here: https://lnkd.in/dCQM6qzW) Leap Berlin's Quantum BBQ is the go-to event for anyone in this area. Definitely check them out for events and office space!
Yesterday, a guy who bombed physics in high school, gave a talk at a quantum meetup. That wasn't the only thing that was random on the night … In fact the whole evening, hosted by OpTecBB, was about "sensing quantum randomness." Jose M. Brito, Ph.D did a great job breaking down the complex topic into understandable (and witty) bites (bits? qubits?) and there were some obviously brilliant minds in attendance. If you're at all interested in quantum or photonics topics join the next BBQ (including full bar!) or event from the team or swing by Leap Berlin (where quantum startups can get a year of free office space!!!!). Its a powerful and growing community which we're proud to be partnered with at Silicon Allee.

🎉 Projected have just launched a new product feature: AI Rendering ✨ Projected is a building design platform for architects that brings feasibility studies, 3D massing, and simulation into one workflow. Super cool stuff. Their customers spoke and they delivered! Their new AI Rendering feature lets users generate presentation-ready visuals directly from a building model. If you're an architect or design team, we'd encourage you to try it for yourself with a free 14-day trial: https://projected.tech Ayoub Lharchi and team have built a fantastic product, if you have any questions, reach out to him directly.
