A small business specializing in the use of remote sensing and geospatial data to support natural resource management.
About us
RedCastle Resources, Inc. is a small business specializing in the use of remote sensing imagery and other geospatial data to support natural resource management. This expertise is augmented by a talented group of training specialists who build capacity in partner organizations by designing, producing, and conducting training on a wide variety of geospatial topics. These two core business functions are supported by Information Technology staff who design, build, and operate the systems necessary to manage, analyze and disseminate terabyte-scale geospatial datasets. Founded in 1998 to support what is now the USDA Forest Service Geospatial Office (GO), RedCastle Resources Inc. has grown to 70+ employees in an uninterrupted record of service providing geospatial information to federal land management agencies and their international partners. Our primary areas of expertise include Land Cover Mapping, Inventory, and Change Monitoring of forested and rangeland landscapes. RedCastle Resources personnel are actively engaged in all aspects of vegetation mapping, and work on projects ranging from nationwide maps of forest characteristics to project-scale maps along narrow riparian corridors. We are experts at using imagery in a sampling mode or as an element of a multi-stage sample with field data. RedCastle Resources has more than 25 years of experience developing and providing training, promoting the effective use of remote sensing and GIS for resource management in the USDA Forest Service and international partners and agencies. RedCastle Resources maintains an IT staff to support a wide variety of IT needs including desktop configuration, server architecture and management, and satellite image receiving systems. Additionally, a web and application development staff specializes in creating web sites and applications focused on delivering and and analyzing geospatial information.

Federal NEPA reviews are about to get a serious upgrade. Join us for an upcoming webinar, "Beyond the Script: Modernizing Federal NEPA Workflows", hosted by Carahsoft and Google. RedCastle will be conducting a live, interactive demo of the ASKTERRA Geospatial Agent and how Agentic AI is changing the game for environmental and regulatory geospatial work. 📅 Wednesday, July 22, 2026 🕑 2:00–3:00 PM ET | 11:00 AM–12:00 PM PT In this session, you'll learn: ✅ How the Model Context Protocol (MCP) connects agentic workflows directly to your agency's secure Google Cloud tenant ✅ How ASKTERRA Geospatial Agent turns unstructured text and written geographic descriptions into clean, accurately projected geospatial layers — no more manual "data janitor" work ✅ A live NEPA assessment, with the agent autonomously scanning satellite records to map environmental restrictions and terrain limits ✅ How every query generates transparent, editable code — built for auditable, legally defensible reporting ✅ Human-in-the-loop iteration, so resource specialists can refine complex scripts through natural-language dialogue This is a more in-depth follow-up demo of the geo agent introduced at the June 2026 Geo for Gov Summit in Washington, DC — now it's time to look under the hood! Whether you're tackling environmental assessments, land-use reviews, or infrastructure projects, this is a chance to see agentic AI applied to real-world, federal compliance challenges. 🔗 Register now: https://lnkd.in/gBVNNrV5 #NEPA #AgenticAI #GovTech #PublicSector #GoogleCloud #FederalIT #GIS #Geospatial

Trustworthy AI solutions for federal data demands more than best-effort instructions. In our blog, RedCastle staff and geo-AI specialist Maria Olga Borja outlines how Google's Model Armor provides an independent, structural safety layer that enforces scope and reliability for a conversational AI built for the US Forest Service. Learn how treating safety as architecture delivers genuinely useful, mission-ready geospatial agents. Great to see one of the flagship datasets produced by RedCastle and our partners at the USDA Forest Service Geospatial Office get a shoutout! Thanks Alex Logan and Cecil for helping spread the word about one of the best (and only) comprehensive landscape change products available on an annual cycle. We hope to see these public-private partnerships continue, and are proud to be contributors to the open source science community!
Landscape Change Monitoring System from USDA is now available on Cecil This dataset maps annual land cover, land use, and landscape change across the conterminous United States at 30 m spatial resolution. Three thematic variables are provided: land cover, land use, and change. Access this open dataset on Cecil today. I'll drop the link to our documentation in the comments. Thanks for the Rocky Mountains animation Sabine Nix!

It's Award Season at RedCastle! Recently awarded Geospatial Data Product of the year by the Partnership for Public Service’s Federal Data Excellence Program, RedCastle Resources and our partners at the USDA Forest Service are revolutionizing how we track changes on the landscape with the Landscape Change Monitoring System (LCMS) 🌍🛰️ The Challenge: Satellites can see trees and forests (land cover), but they can’t always see "intent" (land use), or cause of change. Previous data products often lumped these concepts together, or bypassed the causal mechanism of change, making it hard to track actual deforestation versus temporary disturbance. The Solution: Ian Housman, Joshua Heyer, Elizabeth Hardwick and the team at Geospatial Office and the Rocky Mountain Research Station have created coincident maps that finally decouple land cover, land use, and vegetation change. By intentionally separating these different but dynamically related conceptual frameworks, LCMS allows for more precise environmental monitoring and sustainability reporting. Key Takeaways: ✅ 40 Years of Data: Continuous mapping from 1985 to today. ✅ Precision: Better differentiation between natural forest dynamics and human-driven deforestation. ✅ Sustainability Impact: Provides the granular data needed for more effective ecological monitoring, forest planning, and climate-adaptive management. LCMS provides powerful new datasets and tools for environmental scientists and policymakers who require accurate and carefully calibrated data to drive sustainable land management decision making. You can explore LCMS here: https://lnkd.in/eyac-agm or Read the recently published peer-reviewed article in Nature here: https://lnkd.in/eDYCbKcr or Check out the product award!: https://lnkd.in/eEPtZVKq
