That's a wrap on IMTS 2026. 🎉 A full week of conversations, with manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, plant managers, and more people than we expected who are already thinking hard about where AI fits on their floor. People were asking the right questions about the right problems, which gave us exactly the proof we needed that we're building in the direction the industry actually needs. Onto the next one. Thanks to everyone who stopped by 🙌 Sebastian Matthew Christos Ollie Tom Damjan #IMTS #IndustrialAI
About us
Matta is creating industrial AI for factories. We are a group of engineers, scientists, and builders developing manufacturing foundation models (MFMs) and a general-purpose manufacturing OS to improve the sustainability of manufacturing today and to unlock the unimaginable technologies of tomorrow.

Three days down at IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show, and our team has been busy. 👀 Our favourite quote so far: "This is like giving a factory a brain". Which is exactly what we're doing. So many visitors don't yet realise what's possible with modern AI systems, and just how far computer vision has come in the last 15-20 years. We're here to show it off. Come see for yourself! We're at booth 134058, and here till the end of the week. #IMTS2026 #ManufacturingAI #ComputerVision #IndustrialAI

Hello Chicago! 🇺🇸 We've made the trip across the pond for IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show this week, which marks our first trade show in the US! Day one is in full swing and we are looking forward to showing off our demos and having lots of great conversations about bringing AI to the factory over the next few days. Come find us at Booth 134058 if you want to see how AI can catch defects earlier, cut waste, and keep quality consistent, with a live example on our conveyor! Douglas, Sebastian, Tom, Damjan, Matthew, Ollie, and Christos can’t wait to hear what’s breaking on your line and how we might be able to help. #IMTS2026 #manufacturing #industrialai #ai #usmanufacturing

I wrote an article for The Manufacturer about what I think is a second learning curve emerging in manufacturing. Manufacturers have always improved by making more. More production meant more problems encountered, more lessons learned and lower costs. AI could change that relationship. It can interpret far more of what happens on the factory floor and turn each production run into a richer source of useful knowledge. The advantage may then increasingly go to companies that learn the most from every run and turn what they learn into action fastest. For manufacturers everywhere, learning faster may become as important as producing at scale. https://lnkd.in/dgF8daJ3 Matta Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge #Manufacturing #IndustrialAI #AI

Hello Birmingham! We’re at Smart Manufacturing Week at the NEC this week. Come and play with our AI agents on stand F134 in Hall 5. We’ve got loads of interactive demos, including a new LLM agent for talking to your factory. You too can have the time of your life playing with a steel pipe, just like Chris Needham from Innovate UK. Factory AI has never looked so glamorous (thanks Chris!). Come and say hello to Douglas Brion, Tom Walker, Sebastian Pattinson, and Matthew Judge. #manufacturing #ukmanufacturing #smartmanufacturing #ai #industrialai

Sebastian Pattinson, our Cofounder & Chief Scientist, has written a great piece in The Manufacturer on AI and the future of manufacturing. It builds on our recent Sentient Factories event at the Royal Academy of Engineering, where we brought together people from industry, government, academia and investment to discuss a simple question: How do we move AI beyond impressive demos and into real production environments? The UK has world-class AI capability and a manufacturing heritage to be proud of. The opportunity now is to turn that strength into systems that create measurable value on factory floors – in the UK and around the world. Well worth a read here: https://lnkd.in/e6MF2698

MACH 2026 – we’re ready. Calling all UK manufacturers... come find us on the Matta stand (17-121) to see how industrial AI can make your factory sentient and drive real gains in productivity, quality, and waste reduction on the factory floor. Live demos, fun conversations, and plenty of industrial AI chat with Damjan Denic, Carmelo del Coso Ameijide, and Douglas Brion. See you there. #mach2026 #manfuacturing #nec #ukmanufacturing

We recently held a landmark event bringing together the best of British AI and manufacturing. Hosted at the Royal Academy of Engineering, "Sentient Factories: AI and the Future of Manufacturing" brought together around 80 leaders from industry, startups, government, academia, and investment to discuss how we build the future of manufacturing here in the UK. We were honoured to hear from Sir John Lazar, Kanishka Narayan MP, and Prof. Tim Minshall, each bringing a different and important perspective on the opportunity ahead for British industry. What made the evening special was not just the calibre of the room, but the fact that it brought together people who do not speak to one another often enough: manufacturers, startups, government, academia, and investors. We had people with us from organisations including BAE Systems, GKN Aerospace, McLaren Racing, Alpine Formula One Team, Cummins Inc., Bowers & Wilkins, Domino Printing Sciences, Chivas Brothers, Husqvarna Group, ABB, Pragmatic Semiconductor, Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA), Innovate UK, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge, among many more. From aerospace and semiconductors to robotics, food and drink, consumer products, automotive, and advanced engineering, the message was clear: the UK has an incredible industrial base. We also have the third-largest AI ecosystem in the world. The opportunity now is to bring those two strengths together. If the UK is serious about building the factories of the future, these worlds need to collide far more often. This evening felt like the start of something important. And yes, as you may notice from the backing track to the video, the whole thing may or may not feel like the start of a new reign for British industry. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a special evening. #Manufacturing #BritishIndustry #IndustrialAI #ArtificialIntelligence #Innovation #AdvancedManufacturing #FutureOfManufacturing

Last week, the Matta team had the pleasure of hosting "Sentient Factories: AI and the Future of Manufacturing" at The Royal Academy of Engineering, bringing together around 80 guests from industry, government, academia, startups and investment. We had people in the room from every part of the country, from CTOs of multinationals to manufacturing engineers with decades of experience. And that was exactly the point. If the UK is serious about using AI to strengthen manufacturing, we need far more conversations that bring together the people building the technology, the people shaping policy, and the people living the reality of the factory floor. The evening featured brilliant talks from John Lazar, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Kanishka Narayan MP, Minister for AI and Online Safety, Tim Minshall, Head of the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), University of Cambridge, and, somehow, myself too. We also had a fantastic panel with Sophia Martin (Ktiri) (1st Kind), Alan Patterson (BeyondMath), Jerry Gray (Bowers & Wilkins) and Steven Grace (Cummins Inc.). What made the evening special was the energy in the room. There was real ambition, real curiosity, and a clear sense that the UK has a major opportunity to combine its industrial heritage with its strength in AI to build the factories of the future. We have had an overwhelming number of kind messages afterwards, and lots of requests to do more evenings like this, so hopefully this was just the first.
