  • Across continents, people are working to protect the flyways that migratory birds depend on. This World Migratory Bird Day, their stories take flight on screen.🎥 On Saturday 10th October, we're launching Global Flyways: a new digital series from BirdLife International and Content With Purpose, following the people safeguarding the planet's most remarkable journeys.🌎 The series travels four flyways and the marine routes that connect seabirds, meeting researchers tracking migratory birds and communities restoring tropical dry forest. 🐦 It also meets people turning former farmland into waterbird habitat, and others transforming an estuary once seen as a waste dump into a place of pride.💧 Filmed across 19 countries and five continents, the series connects local stories to a shared global challenge, because a bird's journey crosses many borders, and protecting it takes collaboration across all of them.🌐 Global Flyways launches on Saturday. We can’t wait to share it with you.🙌 📷Content With Purpose

  • Take your birdwatching to new heights on World Migratory Bird Day! 🐦🔎📈 Twice a year, people around the world look up to the skies in their millions to witness the wonder of bird migration as part of this day. 🪽 But on Saturday 10th October, there's an even more important reason to take notice. Last month we launched our latest State of the World’s Birds report, which found that 45% of migratory bird species are in decline, with 1 in 9 threatened with extinction.⚠️ Thankfully, there’s something we can all do: look, count, and record. Every observation helps build the knowledge we need to protect our migratory birds and the habitats on which they depend.💪 So, get counting, share your sightings, and help us save our migratory birds. Next year, make your observations count even more on May’s World Migratory Bird Day, with our Race to Save Birds challenge. 🏃 It is a global fundraiser where you can get sponsored for each bird you see, with all the money raised going straight towards our vital conservation work: https://lnkd.in/eYgUACSH Animation by Science Animation Studio #WMBD2026 #RaceToSaveBirds

  • A pioneering step for migratory birds and the communities alongside them!👏 BirdLife International, National Audubon Society and CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe- have completed the Flyways Nature Bond Framework: a science-based criteria to assess projects that protect migratory birds, their habitats and the ecosystems that connect them across the Americas.🌎📝   Nearly half of the hemisphere’s migratory birds are in decline. Developed under the Americas Flyways Initiative (AFI), the Framework will guide investment toward nature-based solutions and bird-friendly infrastructure — protecting both the birds and the communities that share their ecosystems.🏙️   It will be a new tool to move capital where nature needs it most and turn conservation into lasting development for the region. 🙌 Read more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/epf646WA

  • Making our cities safe for migratory birds. 🏙️🐦 Every year, millions of migratory birds travel across the Americas Flyway, relying on a network of places to rest and refuel along the way. But when these vital stopover sites are in cities, birds can face new challenges, including collisions with glass buildings and windows. 🪟 In Panama City, CAF – the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean – is putting a new approach into practice.  As part of the Americas Flyways Initiative, BirdLife International and the National Audubon Society are working with CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe- to integrate bird-friendly design into Hub Norte, CAF’s new regional hub — the first bird-friendly building in its infrastructure portfolio. 🙌 In our latest Voices of the Flyways edition, Luisa Plaza Urrutia, a civil engineer and executive at CAF, shares how biodiversity considerations are being incorporated into the project from the earliest stages.  Read the full Q&A to learn more about the project and the role that bird-friendly architecture can play in creating more sustainable cities 👉 https://lnkd.in/e3PnmNRz #GlobalFlyways #MigratoryBirds #Conservation #Habitats

  • 📣The language of birds was heard at the La Vanguardia Awards! BirdLife International received the Sustainability Award from the newspaper La Vanguardia, as a token of the outstanding work on birds and the protection of habitats in Spain, Europe and globally. The Vanguardia Awards recognise the best in science, social initiatives, culture, and business, highlighting values that support humanitarianism and commitment to Europe. This year’s sustainability award acknowledges that birds are living indicators of our planet’s health. With rising biodiversity loss, shifting climate and weakening ecosystems, our work to protect birds and nature has become even more urgent and important. SEO/BirdLife is at the centre of this award. Their dedication to birds and nature for more than 70 years has helped conserve habitats and recover species like the Spanish Imperial Eagle by championing environmental policies that safeguard nature. Martin Harper, CEO of BirdLife International, said, “It's an absolute honour to receive this award on behalf of 125 BirdLife Partners, and especially the wonderful SEO/BirdLife. It is a testimony to the incredible work that's being done in Spain but also around the world and a reminder that we have a lot more work to do to ensure that birds and all life thrive." Asunción Ruiz, Director of SEO/BirdLife, also said, “BirdLife International shows every day that cooperation, science and public engagement can change the world. At SEO/BirdLife, we are proud to be part of this great global alliance and to contribute, from Spain, to that transformation: a more vibrant planet and a better life.” #restorenature

  • One Partnership. One extraordinary week in Nairobi. 🌍 For the second time in BirdLife’s 104-year history, our global Partnership gathered on African soil, coming together from across more than 120 countries to shape what comes next for birds and nature. 🌱 We strengthened our shared direction to 2030, learned from conservation happening across the Partnership, celebrated the people behind it and saw major new commitments to global conservation goals. At the end of the week came the Global Flyways Summit: the launch of State of the World’s Birds, a Nairobi Flyways Declaration bringing together 125+ organisations and individuals across sectors and a new Flyways bond framework putting bird science into the first steps of major investment decisions. 🪽 There were awards, debates, reunions, new ideas, music, dancing and countless conversations about what we can achieve together. Then, just like the birds, we scattered again. Back across the world, until the next time. 🐦 Join us as we look back at the moments that made Nairobi unforgettable. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gqbmkB96 #BirdLifeInternational #BirdLifeAfrica #GlobalFlyways #Conservation #Kenya

For BirdLife: "umoja ni nguvu" - unity is strength 104 years ago, our founders declared that “…by united action, we should be able to accomplish more than organisations working individually in combating dangers to bird-life”. That spirit of united action was on display in abundance in Nairobi last week, as the BirdLife International family flocked together for both our quadrennial Global Partnership Meeting and the second Global Flyways Summit. With huge thanks to our Honorary President Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, and >100 BirdLife Partners, especially our hosts Nature Kenya for making it such a memorable week. As my video says, we did what we needed to do by: 🎯celebrating our collective impact as >800 of the world’s globally threatened bird species, >7.5m hectares of land, and >2,500 Key Biodiversity Areas are all benefiting from conservation actions by Partners; supported by >5m members and supporters around the world 🎯agreeing a refreshed strategy outlining our ambition for the remainder of the decade 🎯launching our new assessment of the state of the world's birds with a spotlight on migratory bird species 🎯electing our new Global Council made up of representatives from the BirdLife Partnership 🎯showcasing the inspiring work of flyway friends especially Asian Development Bank (ADB), CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe- and The World Bank Group 🎯 encouraging more than 120 organisations to sign up to the Nairobi Flyways Declaration demonstrating our collective commitment to reverse the decline of migratory birds while protecting or restoring the places they and we need 🎯 reconnecting, inspiring and dancing with each other - because we need to be joyful warriors to end the nature and climate crises. Thank you so much to all those that joined and made the event such a success. We return determined to do whatever it takes to ensure birds and all life thrive.
