We have been conducting lupus research for over twenty years and are working to advance modern, targeted options. As the 2026 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Convergence approaches, we’re energized by the progress we’ve made across our lupus pipeline over the past year and the latest updates we’ll be bringing to this year’s meeting. We’ve made great strides in our ongoing work, with a particular focus on: ✅ Advancing research to help expand options for people living with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), who often do not experience a significant reduction of symptoms, like fatigue, in response to standard therapies ✅ Increasing understanding of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) as a distinct and serious chronic autoimmune skin disease that currently has no targeted treatment options available and how decreasing or preventing damage before it starts may be possible by targeting skin disease activity early ✅ Taking a patient-centered approach to research, aiming for a wider range of options to meet the evolving needs of people living with SLE and CLE ✅ Prioritizing diverse representation in clinical trials to ensure the research findings we’re sharing with the SLE and CLE communities reflect patients from different racial and ethnic backgrounds We look forward to sharing the latest updates in our research and connecting with clinicians, researchers and others in the lupus scientific community at #ACR26.

In a balanced immune system, different immune cells work together like musicians in a band, helping protect the body. But in some immune-mediated kidney diseases, certain cells can play off key, producing harmful antibodies or attacking the body directly, both of which contribute to kidney damage. These cells express a protein called CD38, making it an important focus of research for potentially more precise treatment approaches. Learn more about the role of CD38-expressing cells in kidney disease and the potential to selectively target them: http://spr.ly/6047BHaqhT

It takes all of us working together to inspire and create careers for the next generation of scientists and innovators. We welcomed Mass. Secretary of Labor & Workforce Development Lauren Jones to meet some of our emerging talent and to share how Biogen is creating pathways into life sciences. Together, we can provide local talent with more ways to learn and build meaningful careers – all while strengthening the future of life sciences in Massachusetts. #TeamBiogen

We’re proud to be recognized with the 2026 Charles A. Sanders MD Partnership Award from the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH). For 15 years, Biogen has supported FNIH-led collaborations across neuroscience and immunology, including the Biomarkers Consortium, Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP), and Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative. These public-private partnerships help advance our collective understanding of complex disease and ultimately improve health outcomes. #CelebrationofScience

Many treatment approaches for immune-mediated kidney diseases work by broadly suppressing the entire immune system. While this can affect disease-driving cells, it can also quiet healthy immune cells, leaving individuals more vulnerable. At Biogen, we’re working to better understand the immune mechanisms that drive kidney damage and how targeting specific cells could help bring the immune system back into balance.
