Sarah J. Maas' popular romantasy book series, A Court of Thorns and Roses (also known as ACOTAR), became a massive hit through #BookTok on TikTok a few years after the series first began, with now over 70 million copies sold as of 2026. The series consists of five novels so far. Maas announced release dates for books six and seven in March, even hinting that book eight would be on the way after that.

What Is ACOTAR About?

The ACOTAR series takes place in the fae realm of Prythian, where a human girl, Feyre, ends up after a hunting incident. In this magical land, shifting alliances, dangerous enemies, and steamy yet complicated personal relationships are all at play while the fate of Prythian and its powerful courts hang in the balance.

The first four books of the series focus on Feyre Archeron and her romantic entanglements, while the fifth book shifts to her sister, Nesta. The main protagonists for the upcoming books have not been confirmed. However, based on the publisher's synopsis and book covers, the newest novels in the ACOTAR series will deal with the Valkyrie and the threat of Koschei the Deathless.

All five of the ACOTAR books currently available can be purchased from almost any online bookstore. The titles and covers for books six and seven were revealed in August, and both are now available to preorder.

What ACOTAR Book Formats Are Available?

Every one of the five ACOTAR books currently released are available in all major book formats, including hardcover, paperback, ebook, and audiobook. It’s even possible to pick up the first five books as a bundle in ebook, paperback, and hardcover editions at certain retailers, like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, bringing the potential for greater savings.

If you plan to purchase the books on Kindle, this series is unfortunately not included with a Kindle Unlimited Subscription. However, you can use Audible credits, which come with all Audible plans, to get any of the novels in audiobook format from Amazon.

As for the upcoming ACOTAR books, A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody, both will be available in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook formats. A paperback edition will likely come out a few months to a year after their initial release dates.

Merchandise

Along with the release of the next two novels in the series, new ACOTAR merchandise has dropped, including apparel, jewelry, tabletop games, and more.

An original strategy board game has you fight for power in the fae realm, as you play as one of the High Lords or Ladies of the seven Courts of Prythian.  A Court of Thorns and Roses Editions of Monopoly and Priorities are also available. Plus, popular characters from the series, like Feyre, Rhysand, and Lucien have Funko Pop figures.
