The countdown is on for the Phoenix Suns as we prepare for the 2024-25 NBA season. How long until they play? 72 days.
Shams: Phoenix Suns will open the season against the Los Angeles Clippers, first game in new Intuit Dome
Phoenix did not fare well against the Clippers last season. But these are two different teams.
It’s schedule release week for the NBA, and we’re expecting a full rundown of the season’s matchups for each team. However, leaks are already starting to trickle out. Shams Charania of The Athletic seems to have the scoop on some key games, including one involving the Suns. While they won’t be featured on Opening Night, they will be the inaugural opponent for the Los Angeles Clippers at their new home, the Intuit Dome.
The $2 billion Intuit Dome will mark a transformative milestone for the Clippers, providing them with a dedicated home of their own after years of sharing space — and attention — at Crypto.com Arena with the Lakers. This state-of-the-art stadium will not only offer the Clippers a chance to establish their own identity and fan base, but it will also symbolize a new era of independence and ambition for the franchise. For the first time, the Clippers will have a venue designed specifically to cater to their needs and showcase their brand, allowing them to move out of the shadow of their storied rivals and create their own legacy in the heart of Los Angeles.
And their first opponent will be the Phoenix Suns on October 23.
Add this to the list of important games for Phoenix, for not only will this be opening night for both teams, but it is against a Pacific Divison rival. The Suns went 1-3 against the Clippers last season, looking bad and exposing weaknesses in their games. One game was so bad that Frank Vogel yelled at the team!
These two teams are quite different from last year. Both were eliminated in the First Round of the playoffs and have made their offseason adjustments. Paul George, who spent the last five seasons with the Clippers, is now with the Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, the Suns have strengthened their playmaking with the additions of Tyus Jones and Monte Morris. This revamped lineup sets the stage for an exciting matchup to kick off the season.
More games will be released throughout the week, and we’ll be right here to let you know who, when, and where.
