EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — A borough in Cambria County is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
Ebensburg officials announced their historic district is being recognized.
The national register is the nation's official list of properties that are recognized for their significance in American history.
Ebensburg's period of significance spans 162 years, from 1799 to 1961, and there are three distinct eras.
From 1799 through the mid-1800s, Ebensburg was established as a turnpike route and the next 60-plus years brought the completion of the railroad.
A massive fire struck the borough in 1915, but Ebensburg was then rebuilt for automobile-oriented commerce.
