The ABCs of Doccubus, TV's Steamy Succubus Romance

(Showcase)

No one ever said love was easy, and no television characters know that better than Lost Girl's Bo and Lauren. The Succubus and her doctor are the soulful and passionate heart of an otherwise fantastical show, one bursting at the seams with magic and supernatural violence. While their romance has experienced road blocks aplenty, their connection has been an anchor for legions of devoted fans.

If you're not already part of the Doccubus Army, have no fear! Just dive right into our quick primer, designed with the Doccubus newbie in mind.

A is for Anna Silk
Not many actresses could adequately portray a beautiful, endearing Succubus with a hot temper and a taste for humans. Of course, Anna Silk is not most actresses. She makes Bo a truly unique, unforgettable, and kick-ass character.

B is for Bewitched by a Succubus
It's not your average love story, that's for sure. Bo literally bewitched Lauren when they first met. (We guess she also figuratively bewitched her too, but you know what we mean.)

C is for Chi
Chi's rough. Before Bo really understood who she was — and what she was capable of — she killed her boyfriend by draining him of his Chi (life energy) during sex.

D is for Dr. Hotpants
Bo's BFF Kenzi first gave Lauren Lewis this cheeky nickname, but the Lost Girl fandom made it their own. After all, Lauren is a hot doctor (specializing in genetics and cryptozoology).

E is for Exes
Bo and Lauren are great, but they both have their fair share of relationship baggage. For example, Lauren actually sold herself into servitude for her old girlfriend Nadia.

F is for Faenatics
Every fandom worth its salt has a name for its fans. If you can't get enough of Lost Girl, you may — or may already be — a Faenatic! (You can mingle with your fellow "Faens" here.)

G is for Geek Speak
Remember, Lauren's kind of a nerd. Okay, she's a professional nerd, when you get right down to it. And it's really working for Bo: "The geek speak is working, Doctor."

H is for Hugs
Hug chemistry is important chemistry. Doccubus has the heart-warming hug down to a science.

I is for Insatiably Curious
Lauren describes herself as "an insatiably curious human doctor type," and we couldn't put it better ourselves. Maybe we would've added adorkable — because she's totally that too.

J is for Jawporn
So jawporn is a thing, and Doccubus is really good at it. Get inspired by their jaw work with this Tumblr "Super Mega Post of Jawporn." You're welcome!

K is for Killing Spree
Whoops. So full disclosure on Doccubus: Bo did go on a mild killing spree for about ten years. Luckily, the local Fae found her after a bad kill and mellowed the succubus out a bit.

L is for Light Fae
The Fae are divided into two clans, the Light Fae and the Dark Fae. We're personally more down with the Light Fae, seeing as they feed on humans for food, not for sport. The Dark Fae are totally cool with killing for pleasure — which is not cool with us.

M is for "My Love Carries a Death Sentence"
It's hard enough navigating the roads of romance without, you know, being a Succubus. Though that, thankfully, hasn't stopped Bo and Lauren from falling for each other.

N is for Need
Doccubus' relationship is built on friendship and undeniable physical attraction, but they also need each other. They'd both be dead if it wasn't for accepting each other's help.

O is for Owned
Lauren was previously owned by a Fae leader. Bo offered to claim her, but Lauren chose to stay with the Dark Fae over both the Light and Bo. "You're Fae," she told her Succubus friend. "I'm human. So I'll always be a prisoner. The least I can do is choose my own cage."

P is for Passion
We offer GIF proof of this passion. Case closed, right?

Q is for Quagmires
You wouldn't believe all the trouble a human and a succubus can get involved in. Suffice it to say, love (even friendship) is never easy for these two, but their devotion keeps them connected.

R is for Relationship Roller Coaster
Bo and Lauren haven't yet gotten off their wild romance roller coaster. While their ups and downs certainly make for good television, a non-interrupted relationship would be nice too. Just a thought!

S is for Sexiness
Duh. Sexiness is not the only factor by which a TV couple should be assessed, but it's certainly worth mentioning, especially when said couple is as steamy as Doccubus.

T is for To-Do Lists
Did we mention these two are also adorably playful with each other?

U is for Upbringing

It's important to remember that Bo grew up in a regular human family. She didn't realize she was a Succubus until she was 18. Her human values ground her and make her different than her fellow human-feeding kin.

V is for "Vexed"
The busy brains behind Lost Girl heated things up for Doccubus right off the bat. In the Season 1 episode "Vexed," Bo and Lauren made love for the first time.

W is for Wanted
Fun fact about Lauren: She's not who she seems! The third season revealed that Lauren's real name is Karen Beattie and that she's currently a fugitive, accused of being a terrorist. Say it ain't so, Dr. Hotpants!

X is for BiseXual
Yes, we're stretching it a bit with X, but do you blame us? Plus, Bo's bisexuality is important. Unlike other popular ships, Doccubus doesn't rely on the presumed sexuality of its characters. Bo is bisexual, and her sexuality is explored with both Lauren and wolf-shapeshifter Dyson.

Y is for Yin & Yang
Doccubus is clearly about so much more than mere physical attraction (though that's always cool, too.) Their personalities compliment each other, allowing Lauren's calm, logical nature to contrast with Bo's fiery one.

Z is for Zoie Palmer
Could it be any more perfect that Anna Silk starts this list and Zoie Palmer ends it? We can't plan this sort of awesome, folks. Silk's portrayal of Bo is only matched by Palmer's effervescent portrayal of Lauren. Together, they're pretty darn invincible — and a romance for the television history books.
