Bollywood may continue to make hundreds of movies a year, but not all of them leave a mark. So while awards have been one way of recognising the special ones, the Indiatimes website added another feather in their cap by enlisting them in Indias top 25 must watch films.
And with Mr India scoring high in this list of those unforgettable flicks, courtesy an invisible Arun Bhaiya played by Anil Kapoor, Mogambo, Calendar and many others, KT talks to a few actors who were associated with the movie. They shared with us the joy and their experience while shooting.

Great Challenging : Boney Kapoor
Action movies used to rule the roost when Boney Kapoor decided to make Mr India. He shares: Making this movie was a great challenge. However, our first aim was to make a film which could draw the audience to the cinema halls. And with a different storyline that we had, I think we managed it quite well.

But how was it handling the huge cast including that gang of kids? Oh, everyone was so enthusiastic and charged up then that they gave me full support and everything was manageable. So much so, after the shoot when we used to see their performance on camera, I used to be surprised with their act, he recalls.

Especially For Kids: Javed Akhtar

Not only direction, penning the story of this science fiction, was as big a challenge for Javed Akhtar. He shares, I remember when Boney shared the idea with me. I was so confused. Boneys narration basically revolved around the line that the movie has to be on children besides being packed with usual romance, action, comedy and song and dance sequences just like in any other Hindi film. So when I was writing the story I kept it in mind that the movie is especially for children and thats how it came through like this.

Quite an item! Sridevi

Item numbers may be selling like hot cakes these days, but Boney Kapoor had experimented with this idea way back in 1987. While the movie got a lot of attention because of its story, its songs also made a huge impact (including the number Hawa Hawai which is still remembered as one of the unforgettable numbers of Sridevi).

Happy with the movie being remembered even today, Sridevi says: I feel very lucky to be a part of this film. I was excited about playing the role of a journalist for the first time in this movie. The fact that I was working with actors like Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri and director Shekhar Kapur inspired me even more. I can say that this one has been one of my best performances.

Mr Gayab: Anil Kapoor

Anil Kapoor who played Mr India, feels proud when he says: The films close to my heart not only because it was produced by my father and brother but also because it gave me a role where I was shown as an invisible man. I feel very honoured to be the first Super Hero of the industry. What made this movie click with people that time was the fact that only action, violence and romantic movies were being produced by the industry. There was no movie being made for children, which is when Mr India broke mould and left a mark.

Editors Note: Anu Kapoor

Says actor Anu Kapoor who played the role of a confused editor Mr Gaitonde: This movie is very special to me. I not only had a different role to play in the movie but I also connect with the character of Mr Gaitonde in real life.
