Pompeo among Congress' new military veterans
Rep.-elect Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, is one of 22 military veterans, all Republicans, in the 97-member freshmen class in the U.S. House (pending recounts in some races). As 4th Congressional District voters heard so often during the campaign, Pompeo graduated first in his class at West Point and spent five years as an Army officer. He was a tank platoon leader, cavalry troop executive officer and squadron maintenance officer in Germany, leaving the service as a captain to go to law school.
