Taipei's National Palace Museum

Museum Taiwan
The National Palace Museum in Taipei
Taiwan's National Palace Museum has re-opened after a three-year-multi million dollar refit.

It's got one of the most important collections of Chinese art treasures anywhere in the world, most of them collected by China's ancient emperors.

I think the collections have found their home here in Taiwan. They will be able to take off and soar into the sky.

Lin Mun Lee, Museum Director

They were taken to Taiwan in the late 1940s when the nationalists fled there as the Communists gained ground in mainland China and Beijing's none to happy about the exhibits.

It says the way the objects are displayed promotes Taiwanese independence.

First broadcast 8th February 2007
