Cyprus signs space agreement
The agreement was signed by Secretary of the Ministry of Communications and Works Makis Constantinides and on behalf of the ESA by Director External Relations Peter Hulsroj. Communications and Works Minister Nicos Nicolaides said the agreement was a very important development for Cyprus in the sector of science and technology, and especially space technology, insisting that it was "a step forward" and that Cyprus "is present and participates in the course of major scientific and technological quests". Hulsroj expressed optimism regarding the commencement of cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and ESA. Nicolaides said that the five-year agreement establishes the mechanisms and legal framework for facilitating and strengthening cooperation between Cyprus and ESA for "mutually beneficial activities concerning the peaceful use of outer space". (KYPE) Reader Opinions ChristopherSEP 07 Cyprus may have a few issues at the top, but industry in Cyprus is starved of funds. At least this may open up opportunities for small ventures, and maybe create some jobs. We must not forget that Cyprus is very much behind on any industry for technology development, and we all need to start somewere. If all of you bright sparks spend more time trying to solve problems rather than bitch about them, maybe Cyprus would not seem so "backwards" and inefficient. It will take time for everyone to get a higher work ethic, but that will only happen if employers start paying more and there's enough interesting jobs to keep people interested and willing to work harder. At the moment all work available in Cyprus is viewed as a source for a paycheck, and very little have passion for their work. Having Cyprus join ESA and possibly create some interesting opportunities is not a "joke" as some of you seem to think. Also, if all of you stop buying and running 3 cars per household, maybe they wouldn't be a parking problem. In any case, what the heck has that got to do with joining ESA !!! It's this kind of attitude thats kept Cyprus behind everyone else in Europe; everybody is pretending to be clever, yet most wont even get out of bed in the morning before 11am. Stelios AUG 31 I agree with Chris. How can this government think of exploiting Outer Space benefits when it can't even manage its own Parking Space problems? Chris AUG 30 I haven't laughed so much in four years! God help the European Space Agency if it wants anything after luchtime - they will have to pay overtime! Isn't it time that sensible, intelligent, ordinary Cypriots took control from the pathetic bunch of fantasists who present themselves as a so-called Government in this Alice in Wonderland country? They cant even get traffic cameras to point at the correct side of the road! Lee AUG 30 Why is this a joke?? I live in the UK and we have a third world road network, does that mean the UK shouldn't be in ESA???? Jim AUG 28 This is of course a joke. The first technological project Cyprus should work on, is getting an internet service that is modern & reliable. Play at spacemen later. |
