HOT-97 RETURNS TO THE TOP
Monday, April 23th 2001, 2:21AM
City radio was rearranged in the winter Arbitron survey released Friday.
Howard Stern was not No. 1 in the morning for the first time since 1994, edged out by WINS, while WLTW was not overall No. 1 for the first time since 1998.
WQHT, very steady and solid of late, rode a surging morning show and a wave of attention for hip-hop to the top spot.
WLTW's share actually went up, and Lite still leads the city in advertiser-coveted 25- to 54-year-old listeners.
Other notable results: Opie and Anthony of WNEW fell from 5.2% to 3.7% as WNEW dropped 25% overall. WRKS and its morning show took a big dive. WOR's Ed Walsh morning show opened a bigger lead on WABC's Curtis and Kuby as WABC dropped about 20% from its election- and Yankee-fueled fall share.
Country WYNY and the Jim Kerr morning show jumped 33%, while WQCD and WQXR both took big leaps. WTJM has almost caught WCBS-FM in the crucial 25-54 category, and here's one worth watching: The WSKQ morning show is only a tick behind both Stern and WINS.
These numbers are the percentage of total listeners in an average quarter hour.
