Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein

Assigned to cover a break-in at Washington’s Watergate building in 1972, reporters Woodward (left) and Bernstein doggedly -- and bravely -- followed their story straight to the White House. Their ongoing coverage in The Washington Post, famously informed by the anonymous source "Deep Throat," shed light on wrongdoing at the highest levels of government, won the pair a Pulitzer Prize and led, in the end, to the resignation of President Nixon, demonstrating the power -- and necessity -- of a free press.
