Train interchange delay threatens to push back tram project

FEARS were raised yesterday of further delays to Edinburgh's tram project after it emerged that plans for a key tram-train interchange on the city's western edge will not be lodged for at least another month.
The project has also been made more complicated because the new rail station and adjacent tram stop, on the A8 east of the Gogar roundabout, will be built as separate schemes.

The interchange was ordered by SNP ministers to enable rail passengers
to reach Edinburgh Airport by tram after they scrapped a direct link in 2007.

Tram officials are said to have expected a planning application for the station months ago to enable it to be finished in time for the tram line being opened.

Delays to the £545 million Edinburgh Airport-Newhaven line have already pushed back its opening months beyond the planned July 2011 date, and it is now expected to be in 2012.

Network Rail said it would exhibit details of the station plans at the Gogar shopping centre at 29 July and 13 August before submitting an application.

The station will be funded as part of Transport Scotland's £1 billion Edinburgh-Glasgow rail improvement programme. This will include a new junction to enable trains between the cities to run via Gogar.

Steve Cardownie, the SNP deputy leader of Edinburgh City Council, said the rail plans should have been ready by now.

He said: "They appear to be cutting it fine and are taking a risk which would not have been necessary if the plans had been in earlier. If there are any hiccups, it's going to put everything out of synch."

Cardownie is hardly in a position to criticise anybody ..."should have been ready by now"??, "out of synch"??, "plans had been in earlier!??
And what of the bourach of the tram scheme?? On time?? On schedule?? On Budget??

Where's the Gogar shopping centre so that I might visit the planned exhibit? Should this be perhaps "The Gyle"?

PS I hope the 'new junction to enable trains between the cities to run via Gogar' is a link south of Dalmeny to form a trinagular junction with the little-used Dalmeny-Winchburgh Junc line.
Actually reporting where this junction WILL ACTUALLY BE would have been most helpful and indeed 'reporting the news'!

ie "A TRIANGULAR junction....."

#2 Joe, Still whittering on about EARL! LOL!

The new connecting timetable via the tram interchanges at Gogar and Edinburgh Park will connect far more destinations with a far more frequent timetable than EARL ever could. Rail journey times will be much faster and reliable too, thanks to extensive electrification and grade separation of key junctions. The airport to Glasgow Queen St journey will be 35 minutes against the 55 minutes that EARL would have delivered.

When faltering oil supplies kill off the airport the Scottish Tax payer will not have wasted £1 billion on
an underground railway bottleneck that no one uses!

#8 Joe. Most of the cost of GARL is for an upgrade of the rail corridor to Paisley. It used to be 4 tracks, is currently 2 and will shortly be 3. This will improve capacity for thw whole of the South West of Scotland. The spur to the airport is relatively inexpensive and on a par with the cost of the bit of tram line from Gogar to Edinburgh airport. Where you get the idea that all the money is being spent in the west from, I can't fathom!

#2, Joe - as I have pointed out to you innumerate times, the SNP wanted the rail link. They simply siad that the underground version was too costly, and that the scheme would be instead of the (unwanted) trams.

They were outvoted by the other parties.

Joe, seriously: do you actually believe that if you repeat the same lie long enough, then people will start believing it?

This ridiculous tramline is going to hit us in the pocket - the council will have to raise council tax to make up any shortfall. The scheme was opposed by the SNP from the outset.

Is the true reason you don't care about that side of things because it will not be YOUR council tax that is hit?

#8, Joe - firstly, you usually claim that the SNP "favour" Glasgow. Tell me this, Joe - did the SNP come up with the M74 sheme or GARL?

Also, you KEEP calling the M74 project an "extension". This is just another example of your dishonesty. It is a COMPLETION project - and, as again I have pointed out to you many times, it will relieve traffic on the Kingston Bridge.

In this thread:
http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/Queen-Street-on-track-for.5386454.jp

You said: "busiest road bridge in Europe!) You have completely lost it... Why is it you guys from Glasgow (Stepps) have to fabricate titles(Try one of the busiest?) Bragging rights are fine if validated
but weegies aren't terribly good at that are they?
Everything has to be biggest/larger/better than anywhere else doesn't it.?"
====
Now, leaving aside your usual weird obsession with accusing anyone who corrects you of being from Glasgow, one of the other posters replied to your rant with this link:

So tell us, Joe - is the Kingston Bridge Europe's busiest?

Yes or no?

You'll notice that he's hit the clipe button on post #6, in which David Harrington pointed out that Joe lies about his location.

I know Relugas Road well, and have offered Joe the chance to prove himeslf right/honest, and answer some simple questions that local knowledge would give him, but strangely he won't take me up on the offer.

Also, in this thread:
http://heritage.scotsman.com/latestnews/Showground-aims--to-rival.3728864.jp
Joe calls Edinburgh "the city I lived in for over 50 years"....

But in this thread:
http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/Paranormal-fans-invited-to-a.5412962.jp#4181039
which came only a year later, he says - "Having spent over 6 decades in Edinburgh"

So over the space of 12 months, Joe spends a decade longer here!
Brilliant.
----------

So - even a post pointing out Joe's habit of having posts removed gets removed itself!

His dishonesty knows no bounds.

Joe - when will you learn? It is very easy to copy and paste.

When will he learn?
